A simple questiono you prefer Uffizi in Florence or Louvre in Paris?

Definitely, for me, The Louvre. When I was at The Uffizi in 2001 they had many of the windows open, and the glare was so bad you couldn't see many of the paintings very well. The place did not insire me.

Actually, I liked The Pitti Palace better than The Uffizi, and I liked the Musee D'Orsay better than the Louvre. Perhaps all art museums should be thrown into this equation. Then we could have a nice donnybrook. And really, isn't that what we need for the 4th of July...some Fodor's Board Fireworks?!

Bargello in Florence. D'Orsay in Paris.

But the important thing is for you to see them all -- and then we'll wait for your opinion!!

I vote "no" to both...too many dark paintings. In Paris I prefer the Cluny, Marmottan, Rodin plus a host of smaller museums. In Florence I prefer the Bargello and the San Marco. Although the views of Florence from the Ufizzi are wonderful.

I agree with happywanderer, I would go to as many of these as you can. After you've seen them, the only opinion that really counts is your own.

For me, it's the Musee D'Orsay, the Rodin, and Carnavalet in Paris. I enjoyed parts of the Louvre and Uffizi both, but they are way too big for me.

Why must we make a choice? They are both magnificent museums....as are d'Orsay, Rodin, Boghese, Vatican, British Museum, etc., etc., etc.....and that doesn't even include the American ones--Met, Art Institute, etc., etc., etc.

uhoh: More about Carnavalet. Have done the D'Orsay twice, the Cluny (which was fabulous, IMO), skipped the Louvre -- just too overwhelming to spend another morning at Sacre Coeur. More details please -- brief stint in Paris in August and looking for some new adventures!

Loved the Picasso Museum,and Musee D'Orsay in Paris.

I enjoyed the Uffizi more, for two reasons: Mona Winks and good orthotics. (Don't leave home without 'em.)

My overwhelming memory if the Louvre was that my feet hurt (pre-orthotics), there was too much to see, and I didn't know enough about art to appreciate it.

Visiting the Uffizi with Mona Winks, on the other hand, left me with a better understanding of art history, along with a better disposition, thanks to my new orthotics!

The Musee D'Orsay, the Vatican Museum, and the Metropolitan in NYC are my favorites, but this fall we'll see the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, so we'll see!

The really stunning thing to me is how life-changing seeing great art in person is, especially the impressionists.

What, no votes for the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam? First choice though is the Louvre for it's range. Although I loved the Uffizi I got sick of Madonna & Bambino paintings (oh god, now I'm going to hell).

The Louvre is tops, with the Prado in Spain a close second!
