Two nights near Munich Airport - Suggestions Needed

We have two nights at the end of our 12 night Germany trip this December that have not been decided. We begin in Berlin for 4 nights then will visit Nuremberg, Bamberg and Regensburg before flying out of MUC on a 10am flight on Day 12.

We are thinking of staying outside of Munich for a change of pace but wish to have fairly easy access to MUC. I did some checking on bahn,de but cannot find any interesting options. I know that one can overnight within an hour or so of FRA and have several good options for train service directly to FRA but I cannot find anything similar for MUC.

We have been to MUC several times before and may end up there for those two nights but would like an alternative are thinking somewhere in the countryside might be fun.

Salzburg is on our list of possibilities but we would appreciate other ideas.

Direct train would be a huge plus or available shuttle to the aiport. We are using a German Railpass for this trip and will not be renting a car.

Thanks!

Hi; Landshut might be an option. Less than an hour from the airport. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/landshut Dick

If you go to www.munich-airport.de/EN/ and go to the "Getting to the airport" section, then go to bus routes, you'll get the towns that have shuttle bus access to the airport.

Freising
1. on main line from Regensburg to Munich
2. S-Bahn to Munich (every 20min)
3. Direct bus to MUC (short ride)

Landshut
1. on main line from Regensburg to Munich
2. no S-Bahn, but regular trains to Munich
3. direct bus to MUC (bit longer ride than from Freising)

Freising is a nice town and I think would be a good choice.
