Now that we had our itinerary almost finalized , I went to Italian consulate website for visa requirements.
Since we are indian citizens we would require a schengen visa. The requirements are pretty stringent. They require travel confirmations and also hotel reservations from Expedia(which is from where we are planning to book thr trip) are not acceptable. Which begs to ask the question, has anyone been thru this process?

Contact the hotels directly with a description of your situation and a copy of your Expedia receipt. They should be willing to fax back a reservation in their format, which should be acceptable to the visa folks. If not, you will have to cancel the Expedia reservations and re-book directly with hotels. For some reason I find that Italian hotels respond more quickly to faxes than to emails.
