hi Miki, glad you had fun in Amsterdam. Did you buy any tulips to plant in the yard? Since one of the first trips I want to take when T retires from teaching is to see the bulbs bloom in Holland I guess that Amsterdam is on our list of places to visit. I would like to see your tile.

AGM, we saw a bazillion tulip and other bulbs in the floating flower market. BUT you can't buy them and bring them in to the US. They must be shipped. The person we spoke with in the Tulip Museum was very upset that the merchants sell to tourists without letting them know the bulbs will be confiscated if found.

Wow! Up until the spill you took and the trip to the ER, this sounded like a wonderful getaway! I'm glad you liked your hotel and found it to be well-located. That canal cruise at night sounds lovely. The amsterdam card sounds like a true value for the money, since it gets you into 26 museums! I really hope your knees recover soon, so all you're left with from the trip (other than the small scar) are the fantastic memories you made. This was a great report, and I really enjoyed hearing about your trip.

artstuff, the Amsterdam Tulip Museum is at Prinsengracht 112. www.amsterdamtulipmuseum.com . We were told it has only been open for two years. We really liked it.
bookchick, thank you!

gomiki, sorry about your injury. I enjoyed your trip report and the reason you went to Amsterdam too!
My husband and I went for 3 days last summer because I was trying to find a place to visit after Venice and the best routes had a stop in AMS. We didn't plan anything; walked a lot and had a lovely time. I was amazed at the number of bikes and the fact that no one had helmets on!

gomiki---I'm glad your trip was a success. I love traveling at the last minute too.
If you're so inclined, it would be great if you could add your review of Piet Hein here:
http://www.fodors.com/world/europe/n...ty_150610.html
There hasn't been a review from one of our members in some time and it would be nice to have a fresh perspective.
By the way, this is the article that gomiki saw on the home page called "A Perfect Day in the Venice of the North".
http://www.fodors.com/news/story_2884.html
Thank you for suggesting so many specifics. I was curious what the House of Bols was; for others that are similarly wondering, they have a very visual site: http://www.houseofbols.com/index.asp
What drink did you have?
I'm sorry about your accident--I guess the small silver lining with someone like that is that it affords you the opportunity to see another side of the city/feel like you live there. It's a small lining...but still!

Hi Katie. I would be happy to add my review of the Piet Hein.
Thanks for posting the links to the Fodors article and the House of Bols. I don't have the drink name with me here but it was delicious!
Also, I forgot to mention that in the basement level of our hotel by the bathrooms there is a rack with "mini cards." They are the size of a credit card and offer a free postcard, discount, free drink etc at various places. One offers 5% off the 'i amsterdam card.' Every € counts . They can be found in various locations.

Thank you, gomiki, for the link to the Tulip Museum.
We are planning our 6th trip to Amsterdam in the spring of 2009, and would like to visit some of the smaller, more obscure museums which we haven't explored yet. We will add the Tulip Museum to our list.
