Too many hotels in Venice - some help please

Hi,
We will be going to Venice, Italy in December, 2019 just before or over the Holidays. This is our wish list in descending priority
Walking distance from Major attractions/museums (this is critical)
Room can hold 3 unrelated adults comfortably
On the Canal
Eccentric and memorable
Nice art
Room service available or at least restaurant on the premises
Under $250,/night (this is the least priority - if you think I need to spend more to get the rest)).
What hotel do you recommend?

The Gritti or the Bauer but you'll never get them at that price

You should spend some time on booking.com. You can set your budget and other preferences (room service, bed configuration, etc.), see locations on a map and view photos. I think it will be difficult to find all of your needs/wants in a single property. "Walking distance to major attractions/museums" depends on which attractions and museums, and a hotel "On the canal" [by which I assume you mean the Grand Canal] might not be as well located as one farther away, perhaps on a smaller canal. "Nice art" and "Eccentric and memorable" are in the eye of the beholder.

The Metropole would probably fill your bill.... but it would be pricier than $250

It is definitely going to be better for you budget wise, to go just before the holidays rather than over the holidays.

Being on a canal may not be better than not on a canal as canals serve as roads. We had a noisy
expetience on a canal.

Thank-you all very much for your help... We have decided to spend two nights at the Metropole and two nights at Santa Croce Boutique hotel. We might however book New Years Eve dinner at the Gritti Palace. A couple of reviews said the Met restaurant in the Metropole was disappointing, although it does boast a Michelin star. Maybe it is different from expectations. Christmas Eve dinner might be a different story. I will write email and see if I can find a Christmas Eve dinner for each and decide. Now we are struggling to decide among three hotels in Malta, but that is a new post. Thanks again, and if you know about hotels in Valletta, Malta, please check out my post.

Be prepared for Venice to be heaving with tourists over the holidays.

We had a lovely dinner with some Fodorites two years ago on Christmas Eve at l'Anice Stellato in Cannaregio.

Use a map and narrow down to a few neighborhoods you are interested in and focus your search there, like Dosuduro or whatever.

Or use the booking dot com suggestion above, because guessing there is not an overwhelming amount of actual Triple Rooms in that price range around the holidays. I think the 3 bed requirement will rule out a lot of places, so easier really.

Yes, look at staying In Dorsoduro or Cannaregio neighborhoods. Venice is small and hou can easily walk where ever you want to go. And there are always Vaporettos too.
