Can I just get in a taxi line at CDG and drive into Paris or do I need to call an reserve a taxi the night before? And what would be the benefit of reserving? Thanks in advance. Also is the cost about the same as it was in 2011, which is the prices I could find on this forum.

My DH and I hired a private car service to pick us up at CDG and drive us to our hotel.

I liked doing this because then you don't have to figure out where the taxi stand is, you don't need to worry about getting ripped off or needing currency right away.

The person waits for you outside baggage claim with a sign. Helps you with your bags and drives you straight to your hotel without any hassles. This is very nice when you're jet lagged and disoriented in a new place.

But this type of decision is a personal choice based on the cost, how adventurous you are, your physical ability, etc.

There are taxi queues outside of each hall, well marked and easy to find. Should run approx 50-55 euros. A private car generally costs more.

And you never have to worry about getting ripped off by a taxi driver.It costs a few hundred thousand euros to get a taxi license in Paris and they are highly regulated - no driver is ever going to take risks for a few extra euros.

Take a taxi. There is no need to reserve in advance. You just get in line and will be directed to a cab. The cost to get into central Paris from CDG will be 50-60 euros. There is a small charge for extra passengers and extra bags.

Very easy to find the taxi stand. No language barriers with sinage.
You wait in line, sometimes for a few minutes and they assist with bags.
I usually take the RER but cabs are more scenic.

Unless on a business trip (and then it's meet and greet limo, which is much more expensive) we just hop in a cab. It's a no brainer.

There is never a shortage of taxis at airports, especially CDG.

We took a taxi in May. Yes, there is a clearly marked taxi queue, our only problem was that we wanted a taxi that accepted credit cards. While in theory, all Paris taxis accept credit cards, in practice, we waited 10-15 minuted for one that would accept a credit card. The taxi dispatcher there was very helpful.

Make sure you go OUTSIDE the airport and get in the TAXI line -- IGNORE those who approach you IN the airport. Yes, they can also drive you into Paris -- but the cost will be twice as much -- ask me how my sister knows that. Should be @ 50 euros.

JBass is quite right about that. This is true anywhere in the world, the guys trolling for your business inside the airport are trouble.
