Some Questions regarding transport in Paris.

Hi everyone, we are very excited about starting our trip to Paris in a few weeks time. I just wanted to know if the board could comment on the taxi fare from Charles de Gaulle airport to Paris. I have been quoted a fare of €80 to transfer my family of two adults and three children from Charles de Gaulle to our hotel in the first district in Paris. Does this seem like a fair number?
Also we will be leaving from Orly airport when we leave Paris. Our flight time is 10:50 AM in the morning, what time should I get a taxi to take me from my hotel in Paris to the airport in Orly And is €80 fair for a transfer from a Paris hotel to the Orly airport? Thanks very much again for all your help.

No, that's too much to pay for CDG into Paris and WAY too much to pay to get from Paris to Orly. From CDG the fare should be about 50-60E and from Paris to Orly around 30-40E. There is no reason to use anything other than a normal Parisian cab (usually G7 or Taxi Bleu).

If your flight from Orly is an overseas flight, you should be there by 8 am. The taxi ride will take 30-45 minutes depending on traffic, so figure that into your planning.

Agree with St Cirq and will just add that many, many taxis are large enough to take your group in comfort.

At CDG, get in the official taxi line/queue. When you get to the head, the dispatcher will get you a larger cab (no difference in price).

For the trip out to Orly, specify the number in your party if ordering a taxi by phone. Usually a good idea to order the evening before.

It is a bit high for a private van, but not totally out of line. My hotel has privatge driver services they use who charge 65 euro per private van for I think 1-4 people. But since you have 5, they could be charging 80 euro, don't recall.

YOu could take a taxi, I can't imagine it could possibly be more than 80 euro. I will admit I am rethinking my taxi strategy after my last trip to CDG cost 75 euro by taxi, and there was not even bad traffic. And I know Paris well, I know it was not a convoluted route. It was Sunday, though, and even premium hours before 7 am, but I still don't know how that happened from the rates per mile and question whether the guy had his meter fixed to run faster, I just don't understand otherwise. IN any case, my point I haven't paid that much by taxi ever before even in bad traffic, but Sunday before 7 am is the highest rate period and I was going from Montparnasse (which I've done a lot, actually), but still. If I use that hotel again to call a taxi, I will insist they call G7 which they usually do, this guy had no company name on his taxi, even though it was an official Taxi Parisien.

The fifth person adds on a bit to a taxi fare, but not a lot, maybe a couple euro.

Orly is closer than CDG, no way should a taxi cost 80 euro to get there, although I think a lot of those services do charge the same for Orly as CDG, which they shouldn't as it is closer but they do. For example, here is another service which I have never used but some other FOdorites have (some like, some don't), and they do charge 80 euro also like the one you were quoted, so I suspect that is the going rate for 5 people http://shuttle-inter.com/rates.htm

Do not book Bluvan, I booked them and they never showed up. At least they refunded my money when I complained by email, but they offered no explanation. Bluvan also charges 79 euro for 5 people to/from both airports.

Bottom line, it's about typical, I guess. A taxi should cost less to Orly for sure. The 1st is in a congested area with traffic, and in the center, depending on time of day you are going/coming, that could add on some time and thus cost to a taxi fare vs. some place closer to the peripherique.

I usually stay in the Place Vendome area and have never paid more than 60 euros from CDG.
