How much does a taxi cost from CDG to central Paris?
I've seen anywhere from 38 Euros to 55 (in guidebooks, etc.). Does anyone who has been to Paris recently know how much a taxi would be? We're staying in the 4th Arr.
I've booked the Airport Connection shuttle from the airport but if the taxi is close to 40 Euros, I'll probably cancel and take a taxi.
Thanks!!

Last May, weekday rush hour, cost 48 euro from CDG; return was 46, same circumstances. And the dollar is worth less today, so would be over $50, I imagine. There were 3 of us, however, so that may have added a few euro more, with luggage, etc.

I have never traveled from CDG to my hotel in Paris without LOTS OF TRAFFIC. Only if you arrive on a Sunday will it take you about 1 hour. Any other day expect 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I'm not kidding. I used to take the ParisShuttle and yes, there are some delays because you may have to wait at the airport for your pickup. According to the many posts on this site, it should have cost me about 40 Euros for the taxi, so on my last trip I decided to take a taxi into town. Well, it's sure easier sitting in the ParisShuttle for 2 hours at a flat rate than sitting in traffic thinking about the 60+ Euro taxi ride. It's kind of like the flight over from the US, coach gets there the same time as business class. Next time I will try the train, but I'll probably go back to the shuttle in the future.

I've only taken a taxi from CDG into Paris once (on a Thursday morning), so I'm not sure my experience was representative, but my experience was the same as work2fly's: traffic was terrible, it took an hour and 40 minutes to get to my hotel (in the 7th), and it cost over 60 euros.

Hi, 12/22/02 on a Sunday evening we took a taxi form CDG to a hotel in the 1st Arr. Our party consisted of two adults and two children with four suitcases. People were returning to the city from the weekend so traffic was heavy especially around Rue de Rivoli near the Louvre . The fare came to 48 Euros and the driver could not have been nicer.

Now Madison, what would be my purpose to exaggerate the trip being 2 hours? I'm just trying to give a true picture of the traffic situation. I have been to Paris 5 times in the last 12 months. EVERY TIME I have encountered traffic into Paris. I see no point in fooling 1st timers to think they will have a leisurely ride into town.
I have had problems with ParisShuttle in the past and the manager Marc has stood up for his company and made an adjustment to my credit card bill for my inconvienience. So, after I try the RER into town my next trip, if it's not any better I'll go back to the shuttle. Needless to say, you have to be traveling light to take the train.

I've never had it take two hours, and I've arrived on days other than Sunday (or to go back), but I think 40 euro can be optimistic. Also, it varies by time of day or day of week (Sunday is higher).
I think that Kendra appears to want a flat rate and no possible variation, and you can't get that with a taxi. The quotes of 38-55 euro from guidebooks are a reasonable range of what it might cost. Taxis in any city will vary in cost for the same trip based on traffic. Once I spent about 20-25 euro just to get from Gare du Nord to Montparnasse because of the terrible traffic, and I know that's not always that expensive because it's only a few miles.
