Taxi from Pisa to Florence?
Hi,
Does anyone know the average cost of a taxi from Pisa airport to Florence? Will have been travelling for 10hrs - need to get to hotel in Florence quickly!
Also, is there a way to get a DIRECT train from Florence to Vernazza - all seem to involve 3 stops?
Many thanks,
Kofki.

I just came across a shuttle bus from Pisa airport to Florence train station. I suggest you try that and then get a taxi from the train station to your hotel. There is a desk at the airport where you can buy the tickets or you can purchase online at

This sounds strange but it is possible: ask your hotel if they can hire a private car to pick you up at the Pisa airport.
When I thought we could have made it to Italy this year, I had asked a Lake Como hotel if they could arrange for a private car to bring us from our Milan hotel to avoid taking the trains, ferries.

We looked into doing this when our flight to Florence was diverted to Pisa. If memory serves me correctly, we were quoted about 100 euro for a cab betwee the two. Thank goodness Air France chartered a bus for the diverted passengers and it ended up costing us nothing.

Kofki - There are several Florence-Vernazza trains daily which only involve one change - either at La Spezia or Pisa.
e.g 08.01 from Firenze SMN, changing at La Spezia.
You can find details & fares on -
www.trenitalia.it
Hope this helps ...

P.S. Yes, € 100 sounds about right for a taxi.
But there are several trains per hour from Pisa airport direct to Florence.
Fare € 5

Hi Kofki,
>I will have been travelling for 10 hours and figure I'll need to get to my hotel ASAP!! <
They have toilettes at the airport.
I think that you will find that the train to Florence and a cab to your hotel will be just about the same time as hiring a car or taking a cab.
It is about 50 mi. Even if your cab does 80 mph when possible, you won't beat the train by much.

The train only costs EUR 4.95 in 2nd class and EUR 7.45 in 1st, so the bus is hardly a bargain.
However, the bus will definitely have a/c, whereas the train will perhaps not. Also, the bus will probably allow you to stow your luggage in a separate compartment at the base of the bus, so no dragging heavy suitcases up into, throuth and down out of the train.
Hope this helps,
Andre

Kofki - The shuttle bus goes from the Pisa airport to the train station (actually Piazza Adua) in Florence. The train station in Florence is in the city center.
Andre - The price comparison I was making was between taxi (100E) and bus (10E). I find it easier to take a bus instead of a train in Italy sometimes because you don't have to watch your luggage as it is usually stored underneath.
