Switzerland - Jungfraujoch - Winter Clothing

We will be visiting Lauterbrunnen area for a few days in mid- May from the US. Weather permitting would certainly want to do the Jungraujoch at least. Not wanting to pack Winter jacket, etc. on this trip; but wondering if you can either get by with several layers of clothes for this trip and/or is there anywhere in Lauterbrunnen that you might be able to rent some heavier clothing just for a day or two? I'm assuming that real winter gear might only be needed in the higher mountains.

To be honest..... I vacuum packed a heavy coat just for the Jungfraujoch and though it was cold, it wasn't unbearable. I would have been fine with layers. I was there in mid May last year and thought ( for some really bizarre reason ) that Switzerland would be freezing. I was wrong, Switzerland is actually really warm! Paris was colder!

Unless you will be spending days up there skking there is no need for winter clothing. Although you will need more than the couple that went up with us on the train - wearing shorts, tees and sandals.

If you have jeans, sturdy waterproofed shoes, and a couple of layers (In late May I had a tee, long-sleeve shirt and jean jacket) and was plenty warm for the limited amount of time spen outdoors at the top.

My first visit there I wore a jacket and scarf. I was amazed that it was actually warm up there. I took it off and I am very cold usually. Been in June and September and even though there is snow everywhere---not cold!
