SwissAir and Airfare.com

I've just found a good airfare with good connections and layovers on Airfare.com for our trip to Italy in May.

I am curious what people think of SwissAir - how is the airline itself, and how is the airport for transfers?

I am also curious if anyone has used Airfare.com. I am nervous about using a discounter, as I have only once (Orbitz) and they lost our entire reservation.

What would happen if I had to change our flights? With the airlines, I just call and get charged a change fee and the fare difference.

What happens if I had a problem - who would I call?

I take Swiss every year Miami to Zurich. The airline is great, Zurich airport is a huge airport that seems real small, its run very well. Service in flight is great also.

Depending on what plane fly's from where you are going to. The air bus 330 that Swiss uses is by far the most uncomfortable plane you could ever fly. The seats are small, even in business class and the plane is extremely hot, no individual AC Controls. You cannot even put a backpack by your feet there is no room. If the person puts his eat back you cant use a laptop unless it is a 12" screen.

To sum it up the airline is great the plane is horrible (airbus 330)

Although we most fly within Europe or to Israel, we are quite happy with Swiss Air. Both Zurich and Geneve are good, efficient airports. Another advantage if your staying in Switzerland is that you have an option of pre-checking at Swiss rail stations a day in advance. That way you can travel hassle free without luggages on the day of departure.

Swiss Swiss Swiss!

Swiss Air is long gone. Swiss Air was Swiss owned until they went broke (they overextended themselves and made bad investments.) Lufthansa owns Swiss.

Still a good airline.

Zurich is one of the best airports in Europe for a transfer. The average transfer time is 50 minutes, compared to 2 hours+ at London Heathrow and Paris CDG.

I prefer to book directly with the airline.

We just got back from flying Swiss to Ialy through Zurich. My husband felt they were extremely attentive though the whole trip and I would agree. They are generous with food, drink, and chocolate. BUT, although we liked the seatback video screens, the seats seemed very cramped and when the young lady in front of me flung her seat back even before we hit cruising altitude and kept it there for 8 hours, I was basically pinned to my seat. By the way, what ever happened to putting your seat back up for food service??

Maybe you should have politely asked her to put her seat up during the meal service. It might have helped.

betty, I've seen those sort of 'polite requests' turn into nasty exchanges, so I was reluctant. And yeah, I was the nasty one, but I've changed my ways!!!! Hahahaha
