Sunset cape sounion help with provider
I am only staying 2 days in Athens and on MONDAY SEP 10 I am after a SUNSET TOUR half day to Cape Sounion/ temple of Poseidon
Most tours leave at 1500 hours and come back at 1900
There are a few that leave as from 1630 1700 or 1800 hours
Can anyone recommend a provider that operates that tour on MONDAYS and is reliable?
THANK YOU
PS.. I AM DOING CORINTH IN THE MORNING ARRIVING ATHENS AT APROX 1400 HOURS

There aren't really many providers offering organized tours in Athens, and the ones that operate are all reliable....
Can you tell us which ones did you find ?
Some of them will probably book your tour through one of the big ones

Hi Fodors Team
Thank you for your reply
I finally found two providers that do the sunset late at 1730 and 1800 hours
www.travelorama.gr
and
www.greeceathenstours.com
getawaysgreece has one at 1630 but as I need to combine the Corinth in the morning with the Sunset...he didnt want to book both tours for lack of time in between
so now I will book the sunset with either the two above and book Corinth and Delphi with getawaysgreece who is the only one using 12 seater vans
thank you again for your interest and help
Kind regards
Dolores

Both providers that you mentioned don't seem to offer organized tours.
Reading the description of the Sounion tour, this is just a car with an English speaking driver, who is not not licensed and has no permission to guide you
through the archaeological site of Sounion.
I don't know either of the two providers, but they seem to be travel agencies based in Athens.
Any travel agency can organize such a half day tailor made tour based on your time frame.

Can anyone give me references of www.greeceathenstours.com ?
I finally plan to do the Sounion tour with them as they leave 1730 but cannot manage a reply by mail
He confirmed by messenger.. that OK it is confirmed... doesn't give me any peace of mind.
They are recommended by TripAdvisor...
thank you
cheers

Why not ask the hotel reception once you are in Athens? They will be glad to book a guided tour for you (if there is any) or a car with driver.
As said above, most Europeans reach Cape Sounion by public bus.

You could always ask Matt Barrett. Or just use one of the taxi drivers he recommends.

GO and Key are the oldest , best and absolutely reliable ones when it comes to organized tours.
The other two just hire a car with a driver. Most tourists in Athens choose the organized tours because of the lower cost
and the licensed Guide, who will give you detailed information on the archaeological sites that you will visit.
Personally after having worked many years in tourism i would never ask the reception for anything, knowing that they co operate with
specific companies and drivers, getting up to 20% commission on their sales.

The taxi drivers Matt Barrett recommends are just that—taxi drivers. They are not licensed guides, so can't accompany you onto the archaeological sites. I would say use one of the organised tours, or just use public transport to get there on your own.
