Hi all. In researching my upcoming trip I have come across many posts here which indicate that it is difficult to find many restaurants/establishments open on Sundays.
Is this true? Where does one eat on Sunday and are there any major sites you are aware of that are not open then?
Any info you could give would be most appreciated.

Virtually all london tourist attractions are open on Sundays - in fact at many it is the busiest day of the week. And while some restaurants are closed, you will not have ANY problems finding places to eat.

The one thing you won't fine open are many of the theatres. there are only 3 or 4 West End shows w/ Sunday performances. But there are many concerts on Sundays and many of the fringe (sort of like off-Broadway) theatres do play on Sundays.

We were in London for our 40th anniversary on a Sunday and had no trouble finding a really nice restaurant. I don't remember seeing any restaurants closed that day.

How about the type of stores that would sell hairdryers? Which by the way, what kind of stores would sell hairdryers? Would those stores be opened on Sundays?

Thans janis and all. I seem to understand however, the hours of operation usually start at about 11a.m.
and end about 4 p.m. Is this your experience.
Also...isn't Harrods closed Sundays?

Opening hours will be all over the board - even normal weekday hours are much shorter than in the States. Department stores usually only have one "late opening" per week and that means 7 or 7:30 p.m.

lyb: I'd just go into any Boots (a great chain of drugstores you will find all over the country) for your hair dryer. there are other chains that sell small electrics - but you can find anything you'll need in Boots.

Thank you Janis. I'll look for it, I've decided that since I intend to keep on going to Europe, it'll make my life easier to have a hairdryer bought there. I realize I still may have to have different plug types added, but at least I'll be one step ahead.

While most reataurants are open on Sundays, many pubs do not serve food on Sunday evenings. Many will have a Sunday roast (and other food) available for lunch, but not for dinner.

Many department stores (not Harrods) are open on sunday, usually from around 12-17. If in doubt, check the website. A good selection of hairdryers (and nearly everything else you would like to buy) are available from Selfridges, open on sunday, or Boots. Boots shops are around every corner and many are open on sunday.
