Suggestions requested...where to go.

I'd like to do a slower trip than we normally do. We're looking at spending a week in one city and then flying into Finland for a few days in FIL's hometown.

I've been researching Munich and Naples..both have a strong interest for us.

Can anyone give me tips as to what you might choose if it were your holiday......and why?

We look at going in September or Early October.

Making suggestions without knowing what interests you is nearly impossible--please provide more information.

I suggest you choose Munich or Naples -lol! Seriously it doesn't matter what I'd do if you have a strong interest in those cities, why not research them and pick one of the two?

I'd pick Naples:

The ancient cites of Pompeii and Herculaneum and the islands of Capri and Ischia are nearby. Sorrento is across the bay.

Thank you all. I know your right about my having to chose for myself. I don't know as much about Bavaria as I do about the Naples area in Italy so i was hoping a Bavarian lover would come in and sell me on Germany. I'll keep looking.

Maybe re-post your question with that kind of spin? "Tell me why you love Germany" or something like that would catch the attention of people with the info you seek.

Enough in Munich for a few days. Some nice Bavarian towns but it needs a car and a lot of travelling.

There is what they call the Romantic Road as a driving route:

Well Timlin, Munich is great, no question, but Prague, Prague and its beauty, energy and culture will far surpass your expectations-as jaded a traveler as I am known to be, I was quite taken with this city.

Thank you again for the additional information. I've bookmarked a couple of the sights.

Prague was not in Germany last I looked. LOL!! Honestly I've always wanted to go to Bavaria so Germany is the choice for this holiday with a quick run up into Finland for the last week.

I loved Bavaria! Munich itself isn't one of my favorite cities, although I do like it, but Bavaria has so much to offer. I personally would spend a week in one of the small Bavarian towns and perhaps rent a vacation apartment to really live like a local. In Bavaria the food and beer is delicious and the mountain views are splendid.

There are plenty of great places to visit in Bavaria; Ludwig's castles, Mittenwald and Oberammergau. My favorite area of Bavaria was Berchtesgadenland, a penninsula of land surrounded by Austria. From here one could visit Berchtesgaden, Ramsau, Bischofweisen, the beautiful Konigssee and even Salzburg and the Salzkammergut. We spent a week in a vacation apartment near Bechtesgaden last year and it has been one of our favorite vacations so far.

I think a lot of this is just personal preference so you will get varying responses. I didn't spend a lot of time in Naples because I felt an immediate discomfort in the city. I would much rather spend the time in Rome, but again that's just a personal opinion.

Either way I think you would have a great time.

Good luck!
