My brother in law and I are supposed to be flying into Switzerland next week (Sept 16th) but we planned on staying for a day or two in Strasbourg. After hearing about headaches some Americans were having either trying to obtain a French Sanitaire or convince checkers to accept their CDC cards we scrapped our hotel there and are now staying in nearby Freiburg Am Breisgau. As a travel photographer I do NOT want to miss out on seeing Strasbourg, I applied for the sanitaire yesterday and got their "réponse automatique", so I'll report back. If I'm denied for whatever reason, I'll take a gamble and see if we can eat somewhere willing to simply wave us in with the CDC cards and passports. I read that there were many restaurants that aren't happy about the government's response and refuse to enforce measures despite punitive action. I figure the worst thing that can happen is we can't go inside the Notre Dame or we're refused service from a couple of restaurants. Not the end of the world. Tram D will take us over to Kehl Germany in just a few minutes.

Which is it???? Next week or Sept 16?? I would be more comfortable with things settling down if it is in Sept.

Based on my guess that they're processing requests based on arrival date in France, it will be interesting to see if you get a response quickly. Please let us know! Strasbourg is really lovely and I think you'll enjoy photographing it. I agree with you that it will probably not be difficult to find a restaurant that will welcome you if you don't have the QR code, especially if you eat outside. Good luck!

We are traveling with our daughter & her family who live in France. One restaurant wasn’t able to scan my daughter’s sanitaire pass so they refused us. She now carries a paper copy.
hope this helps.

we are traveling in France right now. Currently in the French alps. We are fully vaccinated Americans. We do not have the pass sanitaire. Most restaurants have allowed us to dine. Some accepted our CDC certificates & scanned them. Some did not ask to see them. One restaurant refused us. So it is hit or miss.

Thanks for the realtime information, Karen. Yes, it sounds very hit or miss which isn't surprising especially given the speed with which it was announced and carried out. I wonder if Paris is much different from the rest of the country. My guess is that it's pretty hit or miss there, too. If worse comes to worse, there's the 72 hour antigen test...
I hope you have a wonderful time with your family!

Update: Still haven't received word about the Sanitaire and we fly out after tomorrow. I appreciate others giving me their "boots on the ground" interactions while over there. Gives me an idea of what to expect and I think my brother will sleep a little easier. A restaurant that cancelled our reservation reinstated it after I inquired over it was in regards to the Sanitaire. They rebooked, asked us to please come and bring our CDC cards. May not be as bad as I anticipated.

My fellow Americans, have any of you gotten the CLEAR digital i.d. app, which is designed for mobile passport control? Our local health megasite offered it free to those who were vaccinated by it, then extended its links to connect with our vaccine source (from another hospital network). The beauty is that it begins with your taking a selfie, and then loads up your vaccine lot # and dates and type, and everytime you go to use it, you must confirm your identify with taking another selfie, it's checks that it's you, and bingo, you're in. Thinking that this will suffice nicely for us by 2022. It has the approval of Homeland Security Act etc (who gave them $ I'm guessing), and takes about 10-15 to do on your smartphones. And yes under my selfie is the QR code. Love it. Will try it out in NYC first, last times in, wasnt required here or there.

They didn't tell me why they cancelled my reservation. I did reach out to them on social media, however, to inquire whether takeout was possible or not because of our Sanitaire status. Hours later I received an email stating that our reservation was cancelled (but didn't say why). When I spoke with one of their representatives via chat he quickly reinstated the reservation and asked us to bring our CDC cards. He also said it was rather straightforward to add your card to the tousatnticovid app. After downloading that I saw it only accepts digital certificates issued by the French and possibly UK.

Sent my application in last week, got an automated acknowledgement email of receipt, nothing since.
I heard they're slammed with requests.
I don't go until the first week of September but I'd like to have it sooner as I go to Switzerland before and who knows if they might look for a green pass.

I got my passe sanitaire 2.5 hours after submitting. I typed up the process I followed for my co-workers. I'll copy what I sent them below, though the formatting is off.MC’s Guide to France’s Passe Sanitaire
1. Get your passe (obligatory)
You will need this to get on public transportation, go in restaurants, or attend the Congress.
a. Download the application form:
https://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/IMG/p..._cle85188d.pdf
Note: Use your address(es) in France, not the US
b. Prepare
i. Pdf of your signed application
ii. Photo or pdf of your passport
iii. Photo of your Covid vaccination card
iv. Photo or pdf of your flights
c. Send documents to [email protected] I sent them as four individual documents, with my name on each.
You will receive an email immediately stating the documents were received. I received my pass 2.5 hours later.
2. Download the TousAntiCovid app onto your phone (Recommended)
When France mails you your pass, scan the QR code into the app & it will import your data and your pass. Mark the QR code as a favorite so it shows as soon as you open the app. Otherwise, carry a hard copy of your papers.
3. Add a Widget to your Phone’s Home Screen and/or Watch
(Optional, but cool. And it will make life easier)
Instructions are in a French Connexion article: https://www.connexionfrance.com/Fren...ne-home-screen
More information at the French Ministry
