Sorrento Hotels:Best Picks 3-4 *
Traveling in mid-October- we're looking for a 3 or 4 star hotel on the cliffs with great view, in Sorrento for 4 nights.
Even though it's only May, many of the hotels are booked already! Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Have you tried the Excelsior Vittoria, perched on the cliffs in Sorrento? I didn't stay there but ate lunch there one rainy day and the hotel is just lovely. Here's their web site:

You didn't say where you were researching hotel availability, so hope I don't duplicate sites you have already visited. Hope the following will help with your hotel search and info in general:

We always stay at the Bellevue Syrene, which is cliff side as you requested.

We stayed at the IL Nido in early April and loved it. it is 10 minutes out of Sorrento in the mountains with a beautiful view of the coast and capri island. We paid 80 euro per night and that included breakfast, free internet access and free shuttle service to Sorrento, the train station and the docks. I highly recommend it. (www.Ilnido.it) Bill

We stayed at the Imperial Tramontano last September. We had a beautiful view from our semi balcony. There is a charming bar just off the lobby we stopped in each night which made a lovely end to each day. We enjoyed the hotel and location is absolutely perfect.

Two years ago we stayed at the Grand Hotel Capodimonte, via capo, Sorrento. There are five-connecting pools on the property, and even though it was May, the temperature hit 90 degrees, so the pool was appreciated.
It's a lovely, big hotel with a beautiful view of the bay and about a 3-4 minute walk into town. However, the hotel is located up on a hill, as are so many in this town. If walking back-and-forth up a hill is an issue, I would research the locations of all the hotels you are interested in.
I love Sorrento.
