Sorrento and Hotel Antiche Mura
My husband and I are debating about whether we should stay an extra day in Rome (four nights instead of three) or go to Sorrento for one night before heading to Positano and Ravello. Is Sorrento worth the visit if only for one night? Does it have the same "flavor" as Positano and Ravello and if that's the case we should probably skip it?? We have booked a room at the Hotel Antiche Mura. It was recommended by another hotel we couldn't get into. They say they're by the Piazzo Tasso, it's a relatively new place and I don't see anything in the guidebooks about it.

Good morning, Conway73
Would stray in Sorrento, it is an exellant hub.. From Sorrento the
Circumvesuvania Railroad runs back to
Naples and Pompeii. (www.vesuviana.it).
The bus runs the complete length of the
Amalfi from Sorrento to Salerno and with
all stops on the way. This allows the
driver to see what he would miss if he
was driving. Don't know about the
hotel but the Pza Tasso is the center of town.. It is at the foot of the road leading down to the Marina to catch the
boats going to Capri for the day. It is a small town with nice little ristorantes and pizzerias,
(www.starnet.it/onda_verde/orari_trafhetti.htm.) and (www.uniplan,it/sita/orari.html.)

Here's another web site that might help you decide about staying in Sorrento:

It is one of our favorite places in Italy. We are partial to the "old town" where we stay. As Richard says, it is a wonderful base to get to other places.
It is different than Positano, but holds it own in terms of charm and beauty IMO.
