Lodging on a Lake in Umbria?

Does anyone know of any lodging or can anyone recommend any lodging?

Would consider Lago di Boisena also.
Thanks.

You might look into Lake Trasimeno, located in Umbria, near the Tuscany border. It is a beautiful lake with a lot of tourist amenities and I sure you could find a very nice hotel there. I stopped there briefly 2 weeks ago enroute from Cortona to Perugia and found the place to be charming and beautiful. In addition, some friends of mine went to a wedding held at Lake Trasimeno - in the very castle that Hannibal stayed in centuries ago! Don't miss the lake at sunset - a truly magical experience!

Are you sure of that? Hannibal invaded Rome in 218 BC.

Thanks Huitres! I have been doing a search for lodging on the lake and so far have not really came up with much.

If anyone knows of any lodging on this lake would you love to hear from you.
Thank you.

Reply to Ira: As an historian researching ancient Roman history, I know of which I speak. During the 2nd Punic Wars, there was the Battle of Trasimeno in 217 BC. Hannibal (in)famously routed nearly 16,000 Romans by Lake Trasimeno. In fact, they are all buried there lakeside -- one would never guess looking at the tranquil vacation scene now. (Refer to http://www.barca.fsnet.co.uk/punic2-trasimene.htm) for further reference.

There is a castle located above the lake (in the hills) that Hannibal used as his headquarters that can be rented out. Friends of mine from NYC just attended a wedding there on August 30 - their son was best man - and thought the castle was the most original - albeit rustic - location - for a wedding. Certainly an unforgettable one by a most beautiful lake!

Sorry, Traveler2, I don't know of any specific hotel location on the lake. You might refer to the city of Cortona nearby as they might have listings of available properties lakeside or in the surrounding environs.

Castiglione del Lago is a popular spot on Trasimeno lake. 'Miralago' is a small hotel in the centre of town. Good food- including fresh fish.Take a boat trip from Passignano (sul Trasimeno) to Isola Maggiore- famous for lace-making.
In 217BC the Romans suffered one of their worst defeats lured into an ambush by Hannibal.Over 16,000 centurions hacked down on the lake's marshy fringes. Hannibal,by contrast, lost about 1,600 men.
