Sorrento Hotels & Apartments

Would like some advice / recommendations for a place to stay for 7 nights in or walking distance to Sorrento town center for a group of 3 in May. Looking for a place with a view and hopefully a pool. Thanks.

We just returned from 6 nights in Sorrento which we used as a base for seeing the Amalfi coast. There were six of us (3 couples) and we loved Grand Hotel Aminta. It is located above Sorrento on a hill overlooking the Bay of Naples. The hotel is lovely with a very helpful staff. We took Breakfast there each morning and spent our days exploring the coast. There is a great veranda with awesome views and a lovely pool. Check their website-It's great. The walk into town is downhill and only takes 10 minutes.

I would recommend NOT staying in Sorrento and instead renting a villa in Positano or Praino (unless you want to stay in what feels like the Italian equivalent of the Costa Del Sol!).

We really loved Sorrento because it had a lot of activity at night so after day tripping around the Amalfi coast we could just walk around town with a good choice of restaurants and shops. We stayed at the Bellevue Serene which is right on the water. I can't remember exactly what room we had but it was 500 something with double doors that opened up onto a small balcony overlooking the Bay of Naples. We had a great time there.

Try www.sorrentoinfo.com or venere.com for hotels or apartments. Even expedia has listings in the area. The website for the Aminta is www.aminta.it They have a webcam that shows part of their pool and the view of Mt. Vesuvius. Most hotels in Sorrento that are not actually in town have free shuttle busses to town, the harbour and the train/bus station. I stayed at Il Nido which is aboue the Aminta and has great views and very quiet but no pool. www.ilnido.it

We stayed here a few weeks ago: www.palazzostarace.com

It's a simple but comfortable and clean B&B right in town very near Piazza Tasso. Big bathrooms, very pleasant atmosphere, and reasonable rates. Would highly recommend.

I must not be awake this morning. I didn't realise this was an old thread until I hit the post button.

PS - Where did you stay?

The original post is dated 3/9/04 with a plan to visit Sorrento in May. I'm afraid posts in June are a little late. I agree Sorrento is a wonderful place and our choice there is also the Bellevue Syrene. Perhaps this info will help someone, but obviously not PS.
