Sorrento beaches..are they any good?

well,...I live in Sorrento and I love my town, and even though I like to go swimming in summer when I have some time, I'll have to be honest: I would not come to Sorrento for the beaches, they're small, black sand (volcanic) or stones, and most of the times you have to pay to access them. I'd rather hire a boat and go explore the beauty of the coast along the peninsula!

Sorrento is not a beach resort. It has several piers for ferries and a beach where in the smaller/fishing boats pull up onto the sand.
There are some places with direct aces to the water - but it's mostly gravel - not what we would consider a real beach in the US or caribbean.
