beaches/swimming in Sorrento/ML area

Hi,

anybody know what the beaches are like in this area, thining of staying in either Piccolo Paradiso or the Certosa, both in Massa Lubrense region, but I haven't heard that much about quality of beaches/coves for swimming. We are not really pool people and woould prefer to be able to get to the ocean. We've also heard that you have to pay onto beaches in Sorrento, is it like this in the whole region does anybody know? We;ll be visiting in early October.
Thanks in advance for info

Beaches is a misnomer as far as Sorrento is concerned. There are wooden decks for you to lie on and burn and yes you must pay for them.

The beaches in Massa Lubrense are rocky - just like they are in Sorrento. In Sorrento I was in a hotel that had it's own beach - manmade with sand - so I don't know if/what the general public pays for the beach. In Nerano we didn't pay for the beach, but you may have to pay to park the car (maybe not if your cousin is the attendant). However, by early October it might be too cool to go in the water, and by then if there had been fees to pay, by the time you get there, there probably wouldn't be attendants attendants collecting anymore anyway.

Hi there

Just returned from a week's holiday in Sorrento. I agree that it is not really a beach destination, however the Hotel La Tonnarella has its own beach with lift down to it. It is a pebble beach but really lovely and secluded. Unfortunately we only got to see it on our last day but thought it was very pleasant (and of course no charge for hotel guests).
