Some Paris questions
Hi there:
Some questions regarding our coming trip to Paris:
1. What about Chateau De FountainBleau? Is it good? How long is required to visit it, in general? Any web sites about it in English?
2. How's Mouline Rouge? What's the dress code? Compare with vegas shows, which one is better (or the same)?
Thanks a lot!

Hi, the official site is
http://www.musee-chateau-fontainebleau.fr/
(always a good sign when there's no English translation of the site . . . our froggie friends want to keep it to themselves))
as usual, TA has some good, useful links

Hi,
I'd say a 1/2 day would be fine. I drove from Paris to there. You can get a tour of the interior and the grounds are good to a have a quick look at. Since the chateau is in the town, perhaps a little walk around afterwards.
I have been to the Lido, so my comments are related but not specific. I agree with the comments that you can get a much better meal for less money. So I would do the 11PM show, but find a nice place in Monmartre to eat, around 8 PM.
Hope this helps.

I've been to the Moulin Rouge dinner/show. The food is not so good and the dinner/show package is expensive; I had the second menu offering-Toulouse Lautrec-and you get a few choices for the main course but it's not memorable. The show itself is very good I must say and it is a variety show. Probably the only good thing about purchasing the dinner/show package is that you'll be seated on the main floor and will have a better view than the drinks only patrons who sit above the main floor.

You can take the train to FB; about a 40 minute ride. Then when you exit the station there's a bus (clearly marked) which takes you a 2 min walk from the chateau. A good half day will let you see most everything there; might depend how much time you want to spend in the gardens or the grounds. Have you been to Versailles? I'd go there over FB. You take the RER to Versailles and a short walk...most impressive!

I for one, would strongly recommand the Chateau de Fontainebleau. Because, contrarily to other castles, it has been a royal castle for centuries, and as a result, it includes many different styles. You'll see decorated and/or furnished rooms going from the Renaissance to Napoleon's times. Which makes for a much more diverse experience than, say, Versailles.
I'm not sure how long it would take to visit it. I don't remember exactly, but I would suspect perhaps 3-4 hours. There's a park around it, and in case you would enjoy it, a pleasant forest very close to it.

I think the Moulin Rouge web site has dress suggestions. As you can imagine, you probably can get away with most anything without getting kicked out, but they do suggest trying to look somewhat nice in order to make it a nice evening (for you and others).
I really liked Fontainebleau, both the chateau and the gardens -- I suppose you could spend only 2-3 hours at the chateau, although there is a little Napoleon museum, also. You'd find the train info on the French railway website, www.sncf.com for Fontainebleau.
You don't need to search for train info for Versailles, as you can get there on the lighweight regional express line (RER) which has trains all the time, at least two an hour, probably more. The RER is connected with the metro in Paris.
