I,m looking for a bit of advice.
If I book a 2 week holiday in Greece through, say Thomas Cook for example, is it possible for my partner to join me in the accommodation. She will be travelling independently from Italy a few days after I arrive. I am looking to book 2 weeks in a self catering apartment as part of a package deal, so the under occupency supplement will have already been paid. On the face of it, it seems to be OK but has anyone any ideas to the contary.

I would have a word with the hotel and not Thomas Cook.
When I travelled a lot on buisness my then girlfriend /later wife would often join me for a few days especially if i had to stay over a weekend,mind you this was only in Britain.
Thay may charge extra for meals though,but I always find it is better being up front about what you want to do.

It isn't clear to me what you are doing, as you are combining hotels with self-catering apartments, and I'm not clear on what is going on.

If you book a single occupancy room in a hotel, no, you are not allowed to have a second person in it. In some cases, there is not even a double bed, although there might be. The single price of the tour considers that you are occupying your own room, room costs are not divided by two, but that still doesn't mean the hotel will allow it or like it.

I don't understand what that has to do with you booking your own apartment, in which case, anything goes, I imagine (although some vacation apartments do limit number of guests, or charge more for large numbers).

I think you are just assuming hotels on your tour will not mind, but I sure would not assume that, nor that it is even possible.

No - a single room often has only one single (twin size) bed. (The single supplement does not mean you get a double room - it's the cost for one person in any room.)

If your partner will join you you will need to book a double room for those days - or s/he may end up trying to sleep in the tub or a corner of the floor.

If you're booking a s/c apartment with somebody like Thomas Cooks, it's going to sleep at least 2 people. However, if you're only paying for single occupancy, you may find that only 1 single bed is made up. Whilst sleeping 2 to a single bed may sound cosy, I wouldn't fancy it in Greece in the summer!

Even if both beds are made up, you're going to get maid service at least once during a fortnight's stay. So it may raise the maid's suspicions if she finds that both beds have been slept in when you're supposed to be alone - and if she mentions it to the apartment's owner or company rep, that could spell trouble.

I think most TO's have something in their terms and conditions about not allowing more people than are on the booking form to stay in accommodation, so I think your best bet is to come clean before you make the booking and see if they'll do you a deal for your girlfriend's accommodation only.

Just had another thought. You could look at getting a cheap easyjet flight to Greece and book an apartment or studio directly with the owner. That way you could both stay there quite legitimately.
