Should I buy this plane ticket?

I'm planning to visit Switzerland next summer, 2008, and I see a non-stop airfare on Swissair from Miami to Zurich for 971 USD. It seems so far off to be making this purchase, but everything from the price to the direct flight to the airline is enticing. One small drawback is that I hoped to go in June, and this is for August. Am I likely to get anything much lower by waiting? Would you grab this?

Hi C,

Have you investigated the usual suspects: www.kayak.com, www.mobissimo.so, orbitz, expedia, etc?

Or used the "month-long" view at www.itasoftware.com

Sometimes flying into Geneva can be cheaper than Zurich but I would agree there is nothing quite as nice as something direct. (Is this actually a codeshare with American?)

Wow, Ira! Kayak puts Orbitz to shame! Who knew I could fly direct from PBI (much closer to Boca) to Zurich in June on USAir for only a few dollars more? Thanks!

Frankly, Cimbrone, I'm not sure why I am even bothering to respond to your above but those flights from Palm Beach to Zurich are NOT "direct"....you have to change planes in PHL.

Wow, Dukey, did I say something to offend you? I can't imagine what. Please explain.

I'm with Dukey. I gladly pay extra for non-stop flights, especially if the connection is in Philadelphia!

I simply missed the place where kayak says "1 stop." The set up is different than orbitz where the itinerary is printed out in detail. Now I know.

Glad to see I have options.

I like Swiss air and I like non-stop, so I might just buy the ticket.

That said, if you want to go in June, why go in August? I surely would not change the preferred month of my vacation because of a good price on a single plane ticket!

I would say it is unlikely that price will be lower next year if it really is nonstop both ways. I would have thought June and August would be priced the same, but maybe not. All I know is I paid around $1300-1400 this year for a nonstop from Wash DC to Zurich and back (back was from Paris nonstop, but Paris is a cheaper point than Zurich, actually). I tried for weeks and couldn't get it lower this year.
