Shopping prices in Prague?
Can anyone tell me what the prices are like in Prague. I have heard that you can get good deals on things, leather, crystal etc... I have also heard that the prices are the same as places such as Germany.

A few years ago I didn't see any bargains on quality goods. Clothing prices were about the same as here.
I think a bargain on crystal will depend on how much you're willing to spend. The pieces I liked were quite high, but may be more expensive in the U.S. so if you love crystal it may be a bargain.
Leather? I paid more than $300 for a purse but it would cost $400+ here, but maybe I could have bought it in Germany for the same price.
The best bargains in Prague when I was there were the prices of concerts and meals. Delicious food and very reasonable. And beer!
More recent Prague travelers might be able to provide better information for you.
Prague is a beautiful city and you'll enjoy it regardless of shopping ops.

I didn't think prices were cheap in Prague. There are tons of crystal shops, but prices aren't incredibly rock bottom...I'm sure you can buy similar things when department stores (in US) have sales or clearance. However, the thrill of having bought the item during travels add a bit of sentimental value to it.
Meals are cheap though compared to other EU cities. Beer is ~50 cents US.

I do agree that the performing arts and culture are about the best bargains in Prague, as well as food.
I don't travel in order to shop for things I can buy anywhere or are not a specialty of an area. So, I wouldn't go to Prague for buying leather, for example, and have no idea what it costs. I think the prices on crystal were very good, and definitely cheaper than what you'd pay in the US for that quality, even when on sale in the US. I saw a seconds piece of Czech crystal in an outlet store where I live (Tuesday Morning), and even then, it was probably double what you'd pay in Prague. This was a candy dish. I've gotten crystal wineglasses in Prague for about 5-10 euro each, although that was a few years ago, and there isn't any way I could buy real crystal for that price where I live. That would be the price of a glass wineglass at Pier 1.
Prices on garnet jewelry were much cheaper than in the US, and good quality as long as you shop in a good store.
The prices on regular high-quality or international designer shoes, clothes, etc. in major dept. stores were not cheap, but I don't know how they would compare to Germany. I suspect they might be about the same.

Agree that the best bargains in Prague are food and musci (opera, sympony, all types of concerts). We also found an excellent selection of garnet jewelry - at reasonable but not silly prices and some handicrafts that were cute and inexpensive.
but - I'm afraid the deals that were available in the early 90's are long gone - shopping prices are a little less than western europe - but not much.
