Seattle - Madrid (possibly other departure cities) $460 total summer fare

With a tip from FlyerTalk.com, I purchased two tickets for SEA-MAD for Aug. 17-31 for my daughter and me. So we will be going to Madrid, Amsterdam and London with budget flights between cities.

I saw the fare on Orbitz, but couldn't purchase it with a Canadian credit card. I looked around some more and found it on TravelCuts.ca . So Americans might want to look at TravelCuts.com and OneTravel.com (I also saw the fare on that site).

It's listed on Travelocity.com but availability is more limited than on other sites. The fare seems good for some dates in June, July, and August.

Someone reported finding the fare from Denver also. Try other western departure cities also.

Are they sending you the actual paper tickets, or just a voucher? A voucher could spell trouble on international flights. Who is the carrier?

There is one flight listed on the ITA web site for those dates and that rate for Air Europa Lineas Aereas, flying through Newark with a duration of 16h 40m. Air Europa also has other flights listed up to $807 R/T in coach. You'll want to keep an eye on this one since it is a Continental flight.

Air Europa Lineas Aereas, S.A. Flight UX3166 on a Boeing 737 (jet) in coach class (operated by Continental Airlines as Flight CO 1580)

Departs Seattle, WA (SEA) Wed, Aug 17 7:45a 5 hrs 8 min

Arrives Newark, NJ (EWR) 3:53p
Layover in Newark 4 hrs 22 min

Air Europa Lineas Aereas, S.A. Flight UX18 on a Boeing 737 (jet) in coach class (operated by Continental Airlines as Flight CO 62)

Departs Newark, NJ (EWR)
Wed, Aug 17 8:15p 7 hrs 10 min

Arrives Madrid, Spain (MAD) Thur, Aug 18 9:25a

Note: The flight from Newark (EWR) to Madrid (MAD) is overnight.

I'm getting paper tickets. It's Continental from SEA-EWR, and Air Europa for EWR-MAD (and then vice versa). I also have a code and my itinerary exists at https://mytripsandmore.com (WorldSpan site).

Air Europa flights UX 18/17 are codeshares operated by Continental as CO 62/63. IAH->EWR can be 737 or 757; EWR<->MAD is 777, and MAD->IAH is 767.

On some dates, Air Europa's tickets are cheaper, on others CO are. However, I am not sure if you can earn CO's Onepass miles with an UX ticket.

WilTravel, you'll still want to keep an eye on Continental because they are in bankruptcy. Have you checked on buying trip insurance?

Continental is definitely not in bankruptcy. While still losing money, they are one of the stronger "Legacy" carrier. Much better shape than UA, US, or DL.

I have trip insurance but it doesn't cover bankruptcy so far as I know. However, I'm not concerned about Continental or Air Europa going bankrupt at this point.

My mistake. Continental is on the verge of going into bankruptcy and is one of the weaker airlines because of it's debt load. It’s one of those on the watch list.

CO's CEO threatened bankruptcy as a ploy during recent negotiations with its unions. [Just a couple days ago, both sides announced they've agreed on a cost-cutting agreement.]

If you think CO is on verge of bankruptcy, then you basically cannot fly any US airlines internationally, as all major airlines are in worse shape. Might as well stay home and just fly SW or Jetblue around.
