Searching for Apt.in Venice

I would appreciate any recommendations for a mid-priced apartment/apt.hotel in the San Marco area. View/terrace are welcome pluses. Thanks.

Scott, Just got back last nite from a 2 week trip that included an apt. for a week 200 meters from San Marco. It was a great location and well priced. We rented directly from Christina who also runs the Locanda Barbarigo. Contact me if you need details--we liked it--but the bath was small.

A copy of my trip report follows. Apartment in Dorsoduro, located between the Accademia and Guggenheim in a quiet residential location but still only 2 minutes from the Accademia vaporetto stop. We'd found this apartment after weeks of research on the internet and it is a real find. You're dealing directly with the owner - Lamberto Deho (rather than a distant and impersonal agency). He's a charming man (an architect & yachtsman) and is a delightful host. The apartment is above his home and office (so has excellent security) and it also means he's on hand for any problems. The apartment is quiet, modern and very light with a small well equipped kitchen area, great bathroom, living room, dining table and queen sized bed (phot on web site makes it look smaller than it is). There's heating and a ceiling fan. Absolutely ideal for 2 although you could sleep 4 (2 on the fold out sofa) if needed. At 1,400,000 lira per week it's a real bargain. You can look at the apartment at http://www.world-world.com/properties/it-foscarini.htm

Since then 4 friends of ours have stayed and all loved it.
Altho. I don't know your meaning of mid-priced, I would suggest that you look at venere.com under 5* apts. Several of these are quite nice & seem reasonable to me. I also like venice-rentals.com (different from venicerentals.com); the accomodations are a bit pricier, but when you look at the price of Venice hotels, you can save $ even renting one of these. There are some good values in 1 & 2 br places, espec those w/ only one bath; others are very high-end. We found them thru slowtrav and thought they have some of the nicest available in Venice. Good luck!
