apartments in Venice?

We're arriving in Venice 4/1 and flying out 4/17. We're a small family (one 11-year-old daughter) and are looking for an affordable apartment to stay in. Any ideas? Also, fun sights for kids? We haven't been to Venice in 12 years. thanks!

Without knowing your price range or sestiere preference, I would suggest you take a look at:

Lovely apartment, located very near San Marco.

We used Venice Rentals - venicerentals.com - last summer and were very pleased.

The apartment is located 1 flight up (i.e. American 2nd floor, or Italian 1st floor). There is a lift. Be warned, though, the stairs in the apartment up to the bedroom loft are Very Funky.

Try this one, I am staying here in May with my family. The owner, Contessa Anna is delightful.

bsteele, I think I've asked this before, but not sure if I got an answer. What are the rates for the Pallazzetto Daschio?

Patrick,

We rented two apartments from Anna. One (2) bedroom for 210 Euro's per night and one (3) bedroom for 240's Euro per night.

Patrick, It depends on the season and the length of your stay. We rented the 2 bedroom apartment last June for 5 nights for 160 Euros per night. I think she has raised her rates this year though.

If you are really interested in staying here, just email Signora DaSchio and tell her your approx. dates and length of stay. She is very responsive to emails. She always replied to me within 1 day.

Also, in reply to Rosaleen, we loved the apartment owned by Anna DaSchio, but our kids were teenagers at the time.

Contessa DaShio's apartments are filled with very old antiques and she is particular about how they are used. If your kids are not used to gently handling and using old furniture, this may not be the apartment that is best for your family.

rosaleen, I have always been on a budget and have rented from both these places:

www.housedeal.com
www.specialvenice.com

Housedeal is good for longer rentals (yours is pretty long - over two weeks.) Special Venice has a really lovely one bedroom seconds away from Piazza San Marco that sleeps three or four. Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your helpful information regarding apartments in Venice. We found one within our budget (small) at cheapvenice.com but haven't committed cash as yet. The site manager seems nice. I hope it's all right to trust. Is there a way to check references long distance?

cheapvenice's apartments look nice enough for the price. You could ask there for a reference. Which one did you get? Get the one with the altana (roof deck) in Castello!
