Very strange, after 10 minutes of watching the SA and Jap match I was rooting for SA, why? 'cause in 10 minutes they were losing and clearly being out thought. It got worse and worse as the Japs stepped up the gear until they introduced their massive ruck-scrum tactic, what a weapon. The old men of SA just could not adapt to the idea of being pushed about by those little men.

and breath.... yes, I played as a kid and disliked it, I normally dislike watching sport but yesterday was fantastic.

Just to show how fanatical the people here are about rugby, NZ Parliament have any passed a law that allows pubs to open at 5am and serve alcohol>>

good on yer, mate! [or is that aussie idiom?] There are pubs in the UK where you can drink at unearthly hours in the morning, Smithfields' meat market in London being the most famous one, but private clubs like our Rugby Club can serve alcohol when they like, and at the time of the last Lions Tour to Australia I saw quite a lot of chaps washing down their full english with pints of bitter at 9am.

There has been some great reaction to the Japanese win on the 'net, and we were pretty pleased here too, having never forgiven SA for that disallowed try in the final of the last but one RWC in France. We was robbed!

Seriously, SA looked what they are - a team of very tired old men, and it's not a surprise that they failed to win a single match in the last southern hemisphere tournament. Japan proved not only what enthusiasm can do but also that you don't need to be 20 stone to do it.

They lost 5, but won in Argentina.

Pal - if as I believe you are an american, yes it is! and the played reasonably well the other day - they were beaten by Samoa bt not disgraced.

They are in the same group [B] with south Africa and Japan, who on current showing are both likely to beat your team.

but if rugby minnows Japan can beat mighty 2x champs SA, who knows?

Pal - the Pacific Islanders love their rugby and feature in the NZ and many Australan teams and are very good at it.

here's something to cheer you up, Pal - The USA 7s team [rugby played with 7 men a side, in case you couldn't work that out] actually won an international 7s tournament not that long ago.

No, no-one else could believe it either.

for those who like such things, here is a list of rugby playing countries with the number of registered payers each has:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ying_countries

a few surprises there!

Jah - I will probably put C'annie into retirement, with the option of resurrecting her if I [in]advertently offend the mods again. it's just too complicated to keep two persona running simultaneously, and i missed the lounge more than i would have thought.

returning to the Rugby, Scotland v Japan tomorrow. I'm hoping to be home in time to watch, or I may have to listen on the radio if not.

anyone want to bet on Scotland?

no, me neither.
