Ronnie Scott's; London Jazz

My family is planning a trip to London and Paris in March. One place my brother has always wanted to go to is Ronnie Scott's. I wrote for a reservation but I just got the reply that they will be closed at the time we're there for renovations! We are heartbroken! Can anyone recommend a different Jazz club we could visit? Paris club recommendations are welcome as well. Thanks!

606 Club in Chelsea is a popular place for jazz officianados. Food is terrible (but it is at Ronnie Scotts as well) but the Jazz is often great. You'll need to book in advance

Also, Pizza Express in Dean Street, Soho, has a great jazz club downstairs. Don't be put off by the chain pizza parlour on the ground floor - the basement is the real deal. (And you can at least get a decent pizza with your music).

Boisdale's on Eccleston has jazz. I was unimpressed with the band I heard when I was there. They mainly played show tunes. The haggis is supposed to be the best in London.

I believe there's a place in Dover St. that has jazz, food, and drinks. Also the jazz café.

But jazz clubs aren't really my things.

Yep that's the Dover Street Wine Bar.

I've only ever been there late at night after industry awards events. My memories of it are rather hazy. I think it's got pink tablecloths, or pink walls, or something. Well there was something pink about it anyway. Or was that my eyes.

The Dover Street Wine Bar is the biggest meat market in London (and that's saying something).

It's a Wetherspoons for the middle classes.

In short go there to pull, not to listen.

Time Out has a good Jazz listing each week.

For an all-round evening I'd say the Dean St Pizza Express or Boisdale's (one of my favourite restaurants in London, but the music is more about ambience and dancing than the full-on deal for jazz afficionados).

The Jazz Cafe in Camden is another popular choice but you will need to check who's playing as they cater for a very broad spectrum of jazz artistes - some of it quite blues-y, some of it smooth jazz and some of it almost chart music - though with more traditional stuff as well.

I'm not a huge jazz fan so not the best person to ask. However I used to work for Jazz fm in London and know that their website (which is also pretty global now and not representative of the way the actual radio station has gone, so they're not linked so tightly) has a pretty good listings guide.
