Romeby.com or Welcome House

I am still searching for Rome hotels for May. I came across this website and received a quote for Welcome House that seems pretty good. Unfortunately, I cannot find information (website, phone number) for The Welcome House B&B directly.

Anyone have any experience using Romeby.com or staying at the Welcome House? Does anyone have an email address for Welcome House?

I am concerned about the cancellation fees quoted by Romeby.com.

Romeby.com is great to research the hotels you're interested in, but it's really best to contact the hotels directly (my opinion only). I find that by communicating directly with the hotel one can get a better deal or make individual requests. Agencies charge a higher rate many times and have tight cancellation policies.

This is not intended as a putdown, but just an "educational" reminder (to you? to others? whomever) that this - -

http://welcome.hotelinroma.com

was easy to find with a first-try search on Yahoo using "Rome Welcome House"

I have never heard of the hotel, and I hope you will get some replies from others who have. Its location looks not bad, not great, to me.

You apparently CAN book directly with the hotel. I can't tell if romeby.com adds their own markup, but I think you are githt to be uncomfortable with their cancellation policy.

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
Rex - Thank you for your feedback and information. I did try a search on Yahoo! and got all kinds of crazy sites back - none of which had to do with this place.

I guess I will keep looking. By the way, what are some good areas to stay? I was hoping for the Trevi area or Spanish Steps, but am not finding much luck as far as availability.

I am not trying to dissuade you from this place; at 130 per night (double), it is probably a satisfactory value. I just don't know the place.

There is a huge risk of making Rome hotel selection seem like a one-note song here on this forum. It's been nearly two years since I was in roe last. Like lots of other people here, I sing the praises of Cesari and del Senato - - both in the Pantheon area, which I consider fantastic.

But all travel info is inherently perishable. The reports on Cesari and del Senato seem to be holding very strong, but I have noticed that their prices keep creeping up. So it is with supply and demand.

Search "Smeraldo" on this site, and you will read so many different opinions that it's clear that one person's "find" is another's nightmare - - and this in the face of a quite favorable recent report on nytimes.com (or maybe because of it?)
Whoops - - intended to cite the nytimes reference on Smeraldo - - though I am certainly not "pushing it" or anything. Anyhow, it's on page two of http://www.nytimes.com/2002/10/27/travel/WDROME.html?8td
