ROME: so many restaurants, so little time! PLEASE HELP!
We have only 3 dinners in Rome!
I have narrowed down to the following, and obviously need to narrow it down more. I would LOVE any feedback on my choices.
near Piazza Navona:
LA CAMPANA
near Pantheon:
IL BACARO
in Trastevere:
SABATINI
IL CISTERNA
near Spanish Steps:
NINO
in Campo dei Fiore:
PIERLUIGI
Please help!
Thank you,
Dina

The only one of these I am familiar with is Nino. This is a good restaurant but the food is not Roman but, rather, Tuscan. I would choose a place with more local food if I were in your place. If you do eat there, be sure to have their famous beans.

I haven't been to either Il Bacaro or Il Cisterna but I've eaten at the others.
La Campana--good food but nothing really special. Famous for being one of the oldest trattorie in Rome.
Sabatini--famous for being famous. Expensive. Food was only passable.
Nino--Again, food OK but so what? Notorious for putting tourists in the back room. Rushed service which is almost unheard of in Italy.
Pierluigi--nice setting in quiet piazza near Campo di Fiori. My husband, two daughters and I had four different main courses. Two very good. Two marginal.

I would definitely go with Pierluigi. Outstanding food and service, and an excellent value.
I've been to Nino several times, and was disappointed by my last dinner there. Service was horrible!

We've been to La Campana recently. Our main course was very good, the first course & vegetable only so-so (cosi-cosi). It's in the Michelin Guide, but there are many better places not in the Guide!
We liked both the food and the service at Cantina Vecchia at Via dei Coronari 30 -- recommended on this board.
