I too stayed at the Canada last April with my daughter and it is a wonderful little hotel. My daughter (18) and I walked everywhere and we felt very safe. There was a beautiful leather shop in Termini that I loved. I have just booked at the Stendhal Hotel in Via Del Trione, near the Trevi Fountain. It was 200 euro a night including breakfast. I don't know when you're travelling but I will be there in a fortnight and can report back.

If you are looking for modern, your choices will be limited. I like Hotel Capo d'Africa,a modern and lovely hotel with a great staff and a very good location. I have stayed there 3x and enjoyed each visit.
While I do not disagree that "we can make our own romance really", I am unclear as to why you would choose to stay in an unattractive part of Rome (which IMO Termini absolutely is) when there are so many better options. If a modern style takes priority over a great location, then that is your decision. Since we do not go to Rome to sit in our room, it would not be mine.

I could not agree more with the last paragraph of KFusto's post above. The area near the Termini station is about the LAST one I would recommend to someone visiting Rome for the first, or the tenth, time, unless that person had a requirement to be near the station (because they would be using the train every day, for example). The area is commercial and bustling and, to me, has zero of the charm that you will presumably be seeking on a visit to Rome.
Your budget is fairly limited for Rome, at 175 euro per night for high season. If I were you, I would forget about what kind of furniture a hotel offers and take a look at the area. Several promising hotels have been mentioned above, but you need to check to see if they will fit into your budget. One very well located hotel that I can recommend myself is the Parliamento, which is between the Spanish Steps and the Navona area. Not fancy, but it has been popular for many years; rates range from 90 to 195 euro, so you might find something within, or close to, your price limit.

The only reason why I said that area, is that we're going to be out all day exploring, we have never been to Rome, and since we only have 3 nights we want to make the most out of it, so from 9am-11pm we'll be out. I am open to any areas of Rome really as long as I can walk to the major attractions. I appreciate all the ideas so far, I have researched every single one. Rome is turning into NYC as far as the vast amount of hotels and price. I should also mention that my soon to be wife and I are city people.

I don't get the logic. I'm out all day whenever I'm traveling in Europe too, but that doesn't make me want to end up at the end of it in an unattractive location.
You've gotten a host of good suggestions for nice places WELL under that $600 a night you keep mentioning. I hope one of them ends up suiting you.

Josh, even though you plan to be out all day exploring, having your hotel in a location closer to the areas you want to be visiting makes more sense. You may well want to drop off items in your room if you've been shopping, change your clothes, etc.

Ditto to the 2 previous posts. Not sure why you think Termini is so centrally located as it is convenient more for the access to the train station.
I have stayed in various parts of the city and walk everywhere, with occasional use of the bus, tram or metro or a more occasional taxi. We are out all day but like to come back to the room to shower and change before dinner or just have a bit of downtime.
<<we want to make the most out of it> To me, that includes enjoying the area I am in, wandering the interesting streets, finding a scenic piazza, etc. for some great people watching. There are many charming neighborhoods in Rome that are convenient; no need to settle for one that is not IMO.
