Rome in October

We are spending 4 days in Rome, Oc. l0-14 before a 12 day cruise, already have an apt rented near Trevi fountain, any suggestions on best things to see in 4 days would be appreciated, husband/wife in 70's with 35 yr old daughter, thanks

Tell us your interests so we have a better idea what would be "best" for you in particular.

for now, I tell you that you chose the best month to visit Rome; we say "ottobrate romane" to mean the sweet and delicious afternoon to spend walking and, at sunset, look at the town from one of its terraces: Gianicolo and Pincio.
Enjoy it.
Ciao.

Vincenzo

Hi...We love to walk & meander to find local places, not be locked into tours, we are foodies & do have a apt to cook breakfast butenjoy gourmet meals w/wine..we have heard the city & Roma cards are a must & will even save waiting in lines at some places, are most museums closed on Mon.? We will be exploring from Sun. thru Wed. as our ship departs l0/l5..is it best to arrange beforehand trans. to/from airport to apt in Rome & to/from apt to pier & back to airport on departure? THe apt we will be at has offered taxi service for a total of $340 Euro for 3 w/luggage, can we do better than this or is it a good price, it is 70 km to pier from Rome We are early morning people & like to get out & about, our daughter can go 24/7 but we rest for an hr in the aft. before doing the nite circuit. Thanks for any ideas!

If you haven't already would recommend

-looking through a good guidebook for ideas on attractions and restaurants.

-doing a board search on this forum. Rome is much discussed here.

On the foodie tip: I recommend Da Felice in the Testaccio area. So good we went back twice. It's the kind of place where graphic designers go for lunch and lots of families go for dinner. Very casual and neighborhood-y, and such delicious Roman food. Go on the early side because they run out of stuff (like the tiramisu - heartbreaking).
Also loved Il Moro, a very old-school place where they shave truffles over your pasta at the table. Saw some power business dinners there. We found it in the book "City Secrets Rome", which I highly recommend. A lot of special things we saw came from there.

Hi brafost, I'm pretty sure we ordered City Secrets online. I don't remember seeing it in bookstores lately.
Looks like it's available used from $7.55 on amazon. Get it, you won't be sorry.
