Rome apartment - Highly recommend Residenza Giubbonari

Just got back from out trip to Italy. We stayed in this apartment for one week in Rome.

Check out residenzagiubbonari.com

The location was perfect. Right on the Residenza Giubbonari. It is a pedestrian street only a short walk from Campo di Fiori. There is a market 2 small blocks away, a bakery around the corner & an internat cafe one block away. We walked everywhere. Close to Piazza Navona & the Pantheon. This is a very lively & safe area. A lot of action always going on.

We stayed in the Yellow apartment which had 2 outside terraces with grand views of the rooftops & church domes. We could even see the dome of Saint peters in the distance. It is a new place & the rooms were clean. We used the kitchen a lot saving money on food.

The owner, Cristina, is a very nice lady, who spoke good english. She met us there, showed us around, gave us her cell number & then met us when we left.

It could not have been more perfect.

This looks great. 300Euro/night is high but worth it, IMO, for the space(2 terraces!)/views/location. Thanks for the report. I'm going to forward this to a friend as well.

HI,

These look nice. I stayed at a place just around the corner about a month ago and I can attest to the fabulous neighborhood. I'll bookmark these for future trips! Thanks.

Dbacks, thank you for the information on Residenza Giubbonari--it could not have come at a better time. I am about to wire our deposit this week for the "green" apartment, and your comments help to ally the concerns I have about sending so much cash as a wire transfer. I do have one question: did you use the air conditioning, or if not, did you notice whether it is central AC or room AC? This is important to us because we will be there in late July.

Thanks, and I hope you had a wonderful trip!

As I indicated on macdogmom's other thread we stayed in the blue apartment a few years ago.

The location is great. 3min from Campo dei Fiori, less to bakery and about 5min to a mini supermarket complete w/ deli, meat counter, wines, etc. I loved browsing in the Campo in the morning but found the same produce at a far better price just around the corner in the mini-mart.

Blue apt was on 1st floor (one above ground floor) 2br, 2bath. Small but fully functional kitchen was all we needed. Daily breakfast + lunch picnic fixins, and 2 light dinners in on days we were too tired to bother with a restaurant.

Clothes washer en-suite was great to have - air dried everything on a rack when we were out for the day.

Fodors poster yk has an informative thread from about 1-2mo ago about "what to bring when you rent an apartment" - good info if you've always used hotels and apartments are new to you.

A couple of things we weren't thrilled about but were not show stoppers. Floors were dirty - not to the eye but evident if you wore white socks around inside. Then again everything in Rome is somewhat dirty under foot. We'd come home from a day out on the town and you could see "tan lines" where our sandle straps blocked the city dirt.

Beds were plenty big enough but not that comfortable, at least not by 2009 pillowtop US hotel standards. I've become spoiled by the beds Hilton has at all their brands in the US.

Via Giuibbonari is a pedestrian only street so there was no car/bus/scooter noise - a plus. There were crowds of people going to/from Campo dei Fiori at all hours of the night on the weekend and they made no pretense to be quiet. The double pane windows shut out the noise, but that meant we had to close them. Again, not a big deal.

No wi-fi. (summer 2007). Only you can decide if that's important to you. There was a TV but it only got 4-5 Italian channels and 1 German. Kids watched spongebob in German for grins, but that was about it. It was listed as cable TV (which it was), but that doesn't mean you'll have ESPN, CNN, SciFi, Bravo, or any of your other favorite US TV channels.

When searching for apartments I was bogged down by information overload trying to find the perfect place. Decide what features you want, and in what location then go for it.

Hi,
Do you happen to have any contact info for this agency? I booked a flat for Feb 8th for 3 weeks & when i wrote a few days ago to confirm my emails all came back as Undeliverable. I then went to the website & it is no longer valid- said "can't find this Server " I'm disappointed because it looks like a great flat & up til then they were very responsive. I can't figure out how to reach them. Thank you!
