Apartment choices Rome
I have read a huge number of posts on this site and the slowtrav site re apartments in Rome and have almost got to the point of confusion. Has anyone stayed in either of these - especially the campo rooftop one? My concerns re that one are whether we will use the outdoor area enough in October, the comfort of the sofas in living room, the size of the bedroom, the open kitchen - it seems the location and the terrace are the key points. The other is cheaper and has everything we need - I am a little concerned that the agency has a reputation for cancelling or changing apartments. I have greater confidence in the other agency. We are fairly experienced renters in Europe but not before in Rome (stayed hotel) - want something nice but not luxurious in campo or piazza navona, pantheon areas. I have been focussing on a terrace but wonder if this is justified and interested in comments about that.

They are both beautiful. October in Rome can still be warm during the day, at least in the 70F. You certainly might use the outside areas for wine or breakfast.
We stayed here a couple of weeks ago:

The Monserrato Attico apartment has bewitched me for a couple of years. Alas it is never available when I ask.
Recently requested again -- same story -- but while awaiting a reply, I did a search on tripdavisor (I think) and saw a surprisingly lukewarm review.
Granted, the reviewer -- a female Chicagoan -- sounded a bit off e.g. "Not in a nice modern building, like I'm used to...".
But her main concern was a perceived lack of cleanliness.
Note too that the Monserrato apartment is on the 4th floor with no lift. And the street-entry -- (yes, I'm such an obssesive/stalker that I cruised past the building, opposite Pal. Ricci) -- looked a bit tired and crummy.

tegdale - I think the review was in slowtrav - that is the one I read. We have decided to go with the other - mainly due to the terrace and the responsiveness and reputation of the owner! But I do like the other very much too.

Tim Pearson of RealRome is someone who gave us great service by being so objective and honest about the apartments on offer and the context they were in. I am a great fan of this agency and would always check with them first in renting a good value apartment in Rome.
It is an interesting adventure to web shop through thousands of offerings by scores of agencies often never finding that perfect place. In the end we chose to deal with someone who seemed to be real and trustworthy and he (RealRome) was.
The location of this apartment seems to be ideal although I would be curious to know the exact street. A location on the Campo could be a bit intense.
