Rives de Notre Dame. Has anyone stayed there?
Hi,
I am planning a trip to Paris in January and am looking for a hotel in the Latin Quarter or Saint Germain. I have stayed in the past at various two star hotels, but would like a star or two up. I have heard that the Hotel Rives de Notre Dame is charming and cozy. I have also contemplated the Relais Saint Jacques near Luxembourg Gardens. Since it is winter and a bit chilly, I think I would rather be closer to the heart of St. Germain and the Latin Quarter (Rives de Notre Dame), but I would appreciate any thoughts on the matter or any other suggestions for a cozy spot for winter!!
Thanks.

We actually had reservations there but decided to stay with the Madison. The Rives de Notre-Dame apparently has quite large rooms, done in Provençal style, and looks like a nice place to stay in the winter. But it's not really in the heart of St-Germaine, closer to Place St-Michel.

Thanks Underhill. Just out of curiosity, why did you choose the Madison instead? Where is that located?
Are you going in the winter? I have been to Paris on several occasions, usually staying at Hotel Quai de Voltaire, a two star hotel. The staff there are friendly, but the rooms are a bit shabby. I have also stayed on the Right Bank at the Sofitel by Place de la Concord, which is fairly nice. I much prefer the Left Bank, however. Does anyone else have any other recommendations for a 3 or 4 star on the Left? Again, I am looking for something "cozy" for winter. Thanks

A friend stayed at the Rives de Notre Dame and liked it very much, but as another poster pointed out, it's not in St-Germain but rather directly across from Notre Dame in the Latin Quarter.
My favorite hotel in St-Germain is Hotel de l'Abbaye near St-Sulpice. Very charming, fireplace and comfortable chairs and couches in the common rooms, cozy guest rooms. An excellent location on a quiet street close to restaurants, shopping, Blvd. St-Germain and the Jardin de Luxembourg.

In winter, I think it would be cozy to have a hotel with a wood-burning fireplace in the lobby. I having stayed at these but think they are okay, and I believe they all have one:
Clos Medici (St Germain near Lux gardens)
Cadran (near rue Cler)
Hotel Sully St-Germain (really in Latin Qtr on rue des Ecoles)
Hotel de Lutece on Ile St Louis

can see FP in righthand photo on there
From what you want, maybe Clos Medici would be a good idea or the Lutece. I know Aubusson Hotel also has a fireplace and would probably suit you, but that's more expensive.
