rhodes and corfu- guide needed?

I need some help with these islands. We'll be spending a day from our cruise next month in each of these islands and don't know if we need to book a private guide, either from the ship or on our own. Can we see the islands on our own? I'd appreciate any help you can give me!
Thanks,

Joan

RE: Rhodes - With one day, you should just stay within the old town and explore. It is a stone's throw from where your ship will dock. You don't need a guide. Do some research to see which museums/places you want to go into. There are lots of shops and restaurants in the old town.
Corfu - I haven't been there in years but I am thinking the same thing. The main town has lots to see and do.

Before or after a stroll in Corfu town, I suggest a taxi trip to Paleokastritsa. A guide is really not needed. Just be certain to visit the monestary as the views from it are incredable. One of the loveliest scenic views in all of Greece. You will not regret it!

That sounds great! How far is Paleokastritsa from Corfu town?

It's around 30 to 40 minutes by road when it's busy, but as you say "next month", October will be quiet. The weather is not totally reliable either.

Corfu Town (Kerkyra) is a great place to wander around, with lots of shops, restaurants, museums etc. I also agree with Chania on Rhodes. The old town is a fascinating place to visit, but with the same reservations about time of year and weather.

While in Rhodes, don't forget to stop by the 'butterflies forest'
There may still be there (and if they are, you'll have to be very careful to not make any sound! .

HI,

If you cannot walk distances ( due to knee surgery), wouldn't the guide be the best to cart us around. We also want to go to Sunving Resort for part of our day there...We are also on a cruise in OCT...Oceania Regatta

thanks
