I'm wondering about day 18. Why go to Milan? You are going to fly home from there anyway - I have never been to see the city, only bypassed it on my way to the Italian & French Riviera many years ago. I think it's an industrial city - and of course a fashion capital but I think that's all???

You should check out ferry schedules (Barcelona-Genova is one you should know about.
I think I would go from Brussels to Paris. From Paris you could check out the cost of fast train to Marseilles, then see the Cote D'Azur to Genova, then take the ferry to Barcelona. Fly to Rome from there.
Like wise consider going from Paris to Venice to Rome to Firenze to Milan to leave.
I'm just offering up other options to see if they work for you.
