Hello!
We are headed for the Green Isle the end of this week. I wanted to have a few restaurant suggestions so we are not guessing on a lunch or dinner location.
So far, I have heard Fishy Fishy is great for lunch in Kinsale, but what about dinner. Is Kinsale really the culinary capital? What does dingle have to offer?

You're heading to the place that was the highpoint of my trip last fall. Based on the recommendation of a friend who lives there, we went to a fantastic seafood restaurant called Man Friday. I've mentioned it before here, but it's also right across the street from a great pub called The Spaniard that sometimes has music. It was the best night in Ireland and give my regards to Kinsale!

Oh and in Dingle we had another great seafood dinner at the Global Village cafe on the main street...

Kinsale--The Cracked Pot--have not been there in five years so not sure if it is still there.

Dingle, The best fish/seafood...."The Half Door" on John Street, local deep water lobster and Black, (Dover) sole is the best anywhere.

In Dingle, Doyle's on John Street, is a delightful Irish experience. We had the very best lobster of our lives there and also met some nice people (travelers and staff).

Sue....As I recall, Doyle's is almost next door to "Half Door". You are right they are also very good.

You haven't got much for Galway, so I'll suggest a few. Galway is full of restaurants but unfortunately many of them are mediocre. Some that I like are:

A nice pub / restaurant in Galway is Sheridans on the Dock, run by a family that have a chain of artisan cheese / meat shops. There's an onilne review of it in the Ireland Guide (below). It's unusual in Ireland in that we don't have many "gourmet pubs" so it's a change from the normal pub grub but still has a bit of atmosphere.

Ard Bia in Galway (now moved, to just behind the Spanish Arch), is good but you will need reservations.

McDonaghs on Quay Street, near the Spanish Arch, is a fish shop and restaurant - over the years it has become more restaurant and the shop is now consigned to a small space at the back. Fresh fish but better for lunch or a late night fish and chips, not so much a dinner spot.

I've not been to the Emerald Isle for a fair number of years, but I always had a memorable, albeit pricey, meal at Beginish in Dingle. It's upmarket in a discreet way, and the food and service is hard to beat, located a few minutes walk from Dingle harbor. I only hope it's still in business. If so, don't pass Beginish by.

I tend to not eat many meals at the high end restaurants but, Jim Edwards in Kinsale is very nice. If you find yourself in tiny Castletownshend, west of Kinsale, try Mary Ann's.
