RER at CDG Paris

If you are annoyed by "basic & dull" questions please ship this and go to the next post. If you don't mind another RER question, please read on!

On our last trip to Paris we flew SwissAir from JFK to CDG. We went through customs and then went to find the RER. I swear we walked for 10 miles to get to it (ok, maybe not that much, but . . .) Next month we will be arriving on Northwest (I believe that comes into Terminal 1) and I would like to have a better sense of where we go to get to the RER. Can someone offer some insight? We will not have baggage to claim, after going through customs we will be ready to catch the RER into Paris. Also, on our other trip we stayed in the 1st and went right into Chatelet on "RER B", this trip will require getting to the St. Paul metro station, so we will need to transfer - is there a ticket that will allow us to take the RER then the Metro, or will we use 2 separate tickets? Thanks in advance for your help!

Margie:

I'll be arriving at CDG next week on a Northwest flight. I found the following website to have a very detailed set of directions on how to get from Terminal 1 to the RER station:

http://www.davekinkade.com/roissy-cdg-rer.htm

Good luck and happy travels,
Jennie

Jennie,
I checked out the link you posted - I thought it was great, but I noticed that "davekinkade" said "From Terminal 1, start by taking the elevator down to the niveau boutiquaire (the lowest level). From there, your best bet to get to the RER is navette (shuttle) line 2. The link Ira posted advised to from Roissy CDG 1, take the Green shuttle to the shopping level. . . hmmmm, the directions kind of conflict; is the RER on the Shopping level, or do you go to the Shopping level to get the shuttle to the RER?

Jennie, have a great trip, and be sure to post a trip report! Have fun!

You could take the RER B to Chatelet and then catch a #1 Metro there to St. Paul or you could go out and catch a cab. St. Paul is not far from Chatelet.

The RER ticket is valid for the Métro.

And don't forget that if you exit an RER station you must put your ticket back through the slot in order to have the gate open.

Hmmmmm . . . you're right Margie. That does seem a little contradictory. I'm topping this in hopes someone with a more intimate knowledge of CDG will see this and clarify.

You have a great trip, too. I will definitely post a report when I return.

You take the shuttle from Terminal 1 to the RER station from outside the "Boutiquaire" level. As there are several lines, please check before entering the bus. Otherwise you may finish at Terminal 2. In this worst case, there is also a RER station inside this terminal

Yes . . . definitely. Thank you, Thank you!

Of course, I'd forgotten about this until my current last-minute, pre-trip, detail-checking frenzy! Ha-Ha!

Why bother...all the French people seem to hop over the turnstiles anyway leaving the tourists to pay the fares.
