Thank you, Lisa. I also hope to be going to the places I love in 20 years.

Lisa, it just occurred to me that my grandmother joined me in Europe that year. She was 70, her first visit. Besides Paris, I went with her to England and we returned to Mallorca where I was then staying. When I went home in the fall, she stayed on for some months on her own, having made friends and fallen in love with the place.

Good for her! I'm glad she had such a good time she stayed. A woman after my heart! Life is short and I intend to have as much fun as I can.

MmePerdu, I enjoyed reading about when you lived in Paris - so interesting!

I first traveled to France as a 15 year old in 1973 with my HS French teacher and I became hooked! I returned as a 20 yr old, and spent my junior yr abroad studying in Paris. I lived on Rue de Rome with a divorcée.

Looking forward to more of your memories and photos!

So you likely spent longer than I did during that becoming-an-adult time, powhatangal, and with a divorcée! Such times change us forever.

I'll post a link to the blogs in several weeks, when they're all up, where it belongs rather than continuing to hijack jusher's thread.

Oh yes, the one with every cliché in the book. So much for "living like a local"!

But isn't "living like a local" the cliche? The video might be "back to basics".

Local, like the one who pays his taxes, go to work with the metro, comes back at 7 pm, goes shopping, climbs the stairs to the 5th floor (no lift or the locals) open his winodws in summer (no AC for the locals), cooks in a hurry before his wife gets back with the kids (because it is the week she goes to fetch the kids) and dreams about his holidays at the beach far away trom the tumult of Paris ?

That local ?

J'ai craqué.... encore.

But the local who at least knows where to buy his côte du Rhône at a good price.
Santé.

Mon rôti de boeuf sauce moutarde est prêt, les haricots à la liégeoise aussi, reste plus qu'à passer les croquettes à la friteuse.

Finally got around to seeing your blog, MmePerdu, and I thought it was delightful. Our paths intersected quite a bit. I didn't live on rue Tholozé, but I used to see films at the Studio 28 every week. A former neighbor who lived a floor below me was the administration of the Théâtre Ouvert in Cité Véron, so I saw quite a few plays free of charge there. Sometimes I even paid. My parents took me to the Casino de Paris to see the revue in 1968 (I was 15). Did I see you in the show?

It's a shame you have not met Wo yet. He is a great person, even when it doesn't always show on the internet.

Oh, as for dinner, I cannot match Wo's skills. I was stuck with fixing and eating stewed duck feet tonight.

I thought so when we corresponded prior to his cancellation, and will take your word for it now.

You would not have seen me in '68, by which time I was at the Americana Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. But wouldn't that have been something. Something enough that you know the Casino and I think Line was still there. I do hope we manage to coincide in future.

All I know is when I rent an apartment in Paris, I am paying taxes. The city tax and it will show on the AirBnB invoice.

Anyways, as bad as WhatHello has been on this thread, I

Invited him months ago to our GTG in 2018.

Still holds!! Will he come??

All I know is when I rent an apartment in Paris, I am paying taxes.

The only tax you are paying which shows on the invoice is the taxe de séjour of a euro or two a day. These are relatively minor taxes and are not the principal city taxes which are the Taxe foncière and the Taxe d’habitation. These taxes are higher on commercial properties which clandestine apartments really are. As illegal apartments are not shown on the tax ledgers for the purposes in which they are actually used, you are really not contributing to the tax base to the same degree that one would who is staying in a legally registered apartment or hotel.

Further, many black market apartment owners do not declare the rental incomes on their annual income tax which represents another loss of revenue to the state.

You are exactly right.

But the 3.8 million visitors who visited Paris last year and used AirBnB, contributed over 1.3 billion to the city pocketbook.

Does that count??

I will come Iris, I will. I like GTG's and I like you (as far as one can like someone via internet, we have to meet in the flesh to confirm or infirm (never happened yet, thoug)). You have the intelligence of leaving the benefit of doubt when reading posts !

And yes MrsLost, I'll come and see you if I am allowed to ;-). As far as I recall I had to cancel at last moment to go to Romania or something like that, my boss's will...

I missed another Gtg because my daughter popped in Paris and wanted to see me... Whatever happens, nobody can compete with my daughters. She'll be coming again in 1-2 weeks, she is never tired of Paris, building memories in her pre-adult life, like you it seems MmePerdu !

As for me, I have memories of getting lost in the metro when I was in shorts (we say 'en culottes courtes'). I've been coming to Paris since in a cradle.

Thanks Kerouac... But let me look like I'm on the other side of the force when it comes to ethics, there are things I don't want to compromise with, but alas Internet doesn't allow for any kind of compromise or comprehesive reading (esp when I choose to be quite stubborn and provocative).

Sorry, I misspoke.

The 1.3 billion would go to the economy of Paris and then the city would get a much lessor amount in taxes.

Not great, but Not too bad!!
