If you decline the CDW the car rental will offer then your credit card may be used to guarantee the worth of the car and render your credit card useless as it's over the limit. I'd just get the CDW option from the car rental. Remember in Spain if you need glasses to drive the law requires that you have an extra pair of spectacles in the car with you at all times. Roadside checks can check for this - tourists may slide but locals say this is enforced.

Hi cd,
It is highly unlikely that your auto insurance will cover you outside North America.
Your best insurance is through your credit card. Ask them if they cover Spain, and ask for a copy of the policy.
Next is the Super CDW through the rental agency. There will be a small deductible.
The CDW will have a large deductible.
