Short notice, I know, but am going to Paris next week to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday and would like any recommendations for some nice Parisian restaurants that will also offer something vegetarian. We're staying in St Germain.I don't want a solely vegetarian restaurant, as I'm the only one who doesn't eat meat or fish. I came back from Amboise recently, and I had five fantastic vegetarian meals in some of the best places in the area, so any place that can offer something similar would be a real bonus.

As we've discovered on past threads, "vegetarian" can mean different things. Do a search on "vegetarian and paris". You'll find discussions that fit your particular diet.

As JeanneB says, there is lots of info already on here - unfortunately the search function isn't the very best but you will still find a lot.

In general though, you won't have any trouble - most places have some/several vegetarian choices.

Yes, the search functions here seem a little quirky, but, as usual, thanks so much for your speedy replies. Have already tracked down a couple of interesting (perhaps a tad expensive)restaurants (Maceo and L'arpege)- but it is a special occasion after all.

Leaving the word "and" out of your search critera will speed up the search, because the boolean AND is implicit in how the search engine works.

The other trick is to enclose strings in quotes. If you enter <b>restaurant st-germain</b>, you will see threads where at least one post contains both of those terms. If you enter <b>&quot;restaurants in st-germain&quot;</b> (including the quotes) you may get somewhat more specific hits.

I don't think the search engine is &quot;quirky&quot; - I just think it's just badly designed, in that it doesn't provide the option of searching on thread titles only.

I've always found eating in Vietnamese restaurants is a good bet in Paris.

So if I want, say, car rentals in Tuscany, should I search on &quot;car rental Tuscany&quot; ---no 'and's?

I found most Parisian restaurants to be quite accomodating re:vegetarian diet SO LONG AS you call in advance and tell them exactly how you want to have things prepared. It's easier if you eat lacto-ovo as opposed to vegan. Just choose a nice restaurant (sorry no particular rec in St Germain) for a special meal.

BTW, Vietnamese restaurants hardly suits vegetarians, as many dishes contain either fish sauce or oyster sauce.

Just about every restaurant will offer a vegetable platter.

There are also Indian restaurants.

I would type <b>&quot;car rental&quot; tuscany</b> to eliminate articles where cars and rentals were discussed, but not car rentals.
