he "bar" scene in Vienna is not as popular as Dublin. But there are many bars to choose from.
Would you prefer more traditional venues or cool places?
Do you want right in the city centre (1010) or do you want to travel around a bit?
If you are alone, men will talk to you in bars in Vienna. If you are adverse to this maybe a Cafe crawl would be more suitable for you.

I'm with you lawchick! Very familiar with drinking around the world! That being said, I had a great time in Vienna -- one day back in 1996 I started in the Grinzing area where they make young white wine and drank in the outdoor wine/beer gardens, then after having a bite in the evening went to the bars in the area called the Bermuda Triangle which is very active nightlife wise (I think in it's in the area that was formerly the Jewish Quarter).
Definitely try to make it out to Grinzing or the other wine areas. You can reach them on the tram. They are so pretty drinking wine or beer in the gardens is terrific!

Grinzing is a good idea, but a bit "traditional" for young people. We had a great time in 2005 in a tiny pub not more than a few hundred meters from the Dom. I think it was called something like Cafe Americain or something similar. It is about the size of a typical bedroom but lots of fun. I also recall a pretty good Irish pub a few blocks North of the Opera.

Actually,
There are two organized pub crawls in Vienna. The first is called S.O.S. Pub Crawl (sospubcrawl.com) that runs tours every Wednesday and Thursday nights. In the summer I believe they do it every day. The other is called Discover Vienna, but they don't have a website at the moment. They run tours every day of the summer, but I believe they are closed in the winter.
As for some of the other posts that I read, I don't think Vienna is any worse of a town for having people talk to you in bars than many others in Europe. If you're in Paris guys will talk to you even if your boyfriend is clinging to your arm. People go to bars to meet each other, and I expect that people in Vienna do the same. But never would I ever say that you have to be overly careful when going out here; if anything it is on the safe side.
check out the irish bars, bermuda triangle, or the guertel.

Well not exactly pubs but a night out in Grinzing, on the edge of the Vienna Woods, is very popular with locals and tourists - hopping between the many gaily decorated wine Heuringen (sp?) - local stuff - in warm weather outside with some having music, etc.
