Quickest route from Sorrento to Paestum
I'm wondering what is the fastest way to get from Sorrento to Paestum...
Option A: Take the 7:30 Metro del Mare to Salerno arriving at 9:25. Then take the 9:42 train from Salerno to Paestum arriving at 10:16.
Option B: Take the Circumvesuviana to Pompeii and then I believe there is a bus or train to Paestum. I don't know how long this option takes.
With option A, I would depart at 2:04 from Paestum and arrive in Salerno at 2:39. Then I was thinking I could travel from Salerno using a combination of the buses and ferries stopping in Amalfi and Positano. Is this doable?

Option C: Pick up a car in Sorrento and drive to Salerno (picking up the autostrada A-3)..get off the A-3 at the Salerno-Fratte exit, folow all signs pointing to Agropoli...about 30 kms. to Paestum exit.
Alternatively, if you want a nice shore-side drive, catch the beach road to Agropoli from Salerno, which takes you right by the Paestum site. Also about 30 kms from Salernoa.
Give yourself a whole day to do this round-trip, but you'll have the independence of the auto for probably $80 + or - .
Stu T. (I drove this a few years ago...easy drive, Autostrada most of the way)

Hi Lowly - Option B via Pompeii is quicker - and safer.
Sorrento-Pompeii takes 35 mins.
Pompeii-Paestum takes 57 mins.
The only problem with this option is transferring from Pompeii Scavi station to Pompeii F.S mainline station. It would be advisable to take a taxi for this transfer.
The 09.19 from Pompeii gets you to Paestum at 10.16.
(This is the same train you would catch from Salerno).
Paestum is a 10-15 mins walk from Paestum station.
[From Paestum station cross the road and take the lane opposite through the arch].
N.B. Make sure you leave Sorrento early enough to make the 09.19 from Pompeii F.S.
If you miss it, there isn't another train to Paestum before noon.

You can find Amalfi Coast bus timetables on:

Hope this helps ...

P.S. Option A is risky anyway as the Metro del Mare hydrofoil arrives at Molo Manfredi, not Piazza della Concordia.
15 mins is probably not enough transfer time to Salerno station - you'd end up going by bus to Paestum which takes much longer

DRJ - How long did that take you, though?
It really doesn't work well by bus from Sorrento. Lovely as the ride is along the coast, Sorrento-Salerno takes nearly 3 hrs.
Salerno-Paestum takes over an hour too ...
You'd spend half a day getting there.
