Question - Re Picking up Car In Avignon

I will be picking up car in Avignon (probably from Avis) after spending first 2 days without car. I will be staying in Villeneuve-les-Avignon. My question is whether is would be easier at the TGV station, or Avignon Centre. I thought I would pick up in the afternoon (probably around 3:00), and would then drive to my Villeneuve hotel. Is it less confusing around the TGV station (traffic-wise, etc).
The Avignon SCNF location looks like it might be closer to Villeneuve, but I have no idea about driving conditions.

I hate driving around cities, even to pick up the car! On the day I return it, I will be coming from Vaison-la-Romaine to get train to Paris, so will return car to TGV station.

Anyone know Avignon well enough to answer this?

I've used both the TGV station and Avignon Centre for car rentals (although not with Avis) and prefer the TGV location.

Traffic in Avignon can get crazy, dealing with the TGV station is so straightforward, no matter where you're coming from.

Are you staying in the Haut Ville in Vaison? If so, make sure you get a car that's small enough to deal with some of the hair-raisingly narrow streets and turns (and get total coverage, just in case)!

Another vote for the TGV station - i can tell you from experience that the SNCF station has less rental car agencies which have less hours open.

Thanks for the replies - think I'll stick to the TGV station.

Elle, yes, I am staying in Haut Ville in Vaison, and I've been worrying about just what you mention! I'm almost inclined to just park below and drag my suitcase up- I'll only be there 2 days.
I'm staying at L'Eveche, which is way up, I believe. It's a very nice B&B, which has had some good recommendations. The proprietor told me I could drive up to unload, but would have to park further down anyway.

And Cigale, the flea market sounds fun for Sat. morning. I'm staying at Le Priere, where I know you stayed. I'll also be in Vaison on Tuesday morning when they have their big weekly market. Is the Wed. AM market in St. Remy worth it to make a special effort to get there?
