Prague: Where to stay, what to see.....

Arriving 4 of us at Prague by air 1st of May. We plan 3 days there. We have our flight back to Frankfurt early morning, so if possible, we'd like finding accommodations not too far (unless the airport is close by anyhow)....

We're looking for a clean, well-kept place, but at a reasonable price......

...And a list of must-seen...

THANKS!

Nothing is a must see -- you have your interests, go figure it out.

Go to the Prague listing here: www.inyourpocket.com

What's "reasonable price"? Give real money figures.

Thanks for the info, especially BigRuss. I need some time to go check those sites....

Reasonable to me means up to $100.... I hear Prague is "dirt cheap" but I know that any place that's a tourist attraction will not be cheap....

This is one of the hotels we have stayed in that is right at the 14 century Charles bridge. Good location for both the castle and the old town square. Richard www.utripstrosu.cz or you can check this site that also has reviews. www.booking.com/prague

In the fall of 2008 we rented an apartment which was very clean & reasonable. It was a short tram ride (less than 15 min) from the old center.

They picked us up from the airport. I have pictures bur I don't know how to post them.

I had also heard that Prague was inexpensive - in general it's definitely not! The opera house is beautiful & the tickets aren't very expensive.

We enjoyed just walking around, especially around the bridge, the town square and the castle. There is a Museum of Communism which is interesting and the Mucha Museum is great. The town of Terezin is about a 45 min bus ride away. It was the concentration camp where all the artists & musicians were held and where the Red Cross propaganda film was made - very worthwhile.
Have a great trip!

I went to Prague in 2008, and although hotels are less expensive than in London or Paris, overall I wouldn't describe Prague as dirt cheap.

The airport ride is only about 25 minutes, so I wouldn't worry about staying near the airport. I recommend staying somewhere near Old Town if your budget allows it. Check out wotif.com for discounted hotel prices. Of course, check out tripadvisor.com for hotel reviews before you book.

Popular places for sightseeing include Prague Castle, Old Town Square, including the Astronomical Clock (the clock is overrated IMO), Wenceslas Sqare (a bit seedy), walking across the Charles Bridge,Tyn Church, and the Jewish Quarter, to name a few.

A website I found useful, especially for events going on during my stay, was www.pragueexperience.com . I also like the Time Out guides, or you can check out their online guide for Prague, http://www.timeout.com/prague/

I took a Lonely Planet guide with me, but you can find lots of info on their website, http://www.lonelyplanet.com/czech-republic/prague

Enjoy your time in Prague!

Prague is no longer the dirt cheap place it used to be,20 years ago it was even 10 years ago it was still pretty cheap ,now it is not cheap anymore though you will find prices npwhere in the London,Paris,Rome league.
How early is you flight.the airport is about a 30-40 minute drive from the city center,if you are on a budget you can use local transport to get you to and from the airport but as there are 4 of you an airport shuttle would be very reasonable.

I have used this company many times and can highly reccommend them.
I will be back in Prague on the 13th may for the Czech Beer festival and am stying in the Hotel Chopin which is right opposite the main train station,I have stayed there before and it is a good clean 3 star hotel, not the cheapest place around but might just be within your budget if you get a good deal.
Might be worth your while looking for an apartment ,this compy is pretty good for that.

The transport system in prague is very good and very cheap so even if you get somewhere away from the city center than as long as you are close to a metro stop or a tram stop you can get to the center pretty quickly.

you might find this website useful, lots of ideas of what to see and do ,they also have several suggested intinaries.
hope this all helps.
