Prague airport to city center
I would like to know how far the airport is from the city center. I will only have 2 nights/1 day in Prague so I want to utilize my time wisely. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel that is not too pricy? I don't know if it would be better to stay near the airport or in the city center. Also what do you recommend seeing in 1 day. Thanks.

Hi, the city center is approx. 20-25 min. by car. It's pretty closed. I definitely recommend that you stayed in the center - stare mestro area, as you will be walking distance to everything. Prague is so beautiful that you can see a lot by foot. We stayed at the Renaissance Hotel and it was pretty decent price to me, but obviously there are many other hotels with more moderate prices.
Good luck!

Hi Housome, your question reminds me , arriving to Prague a few years back , we carefully took one of the official taxis in line at the airport. At the official booth they gave us a card with the amount we should pay the taxi. The only problem was that we had no small change, when we arrived he tried to keep the whole amount giving us no change in return. It took my husband some doing to get it back. And it was several time de taxi fare. So I guess a good advice would be bring small denomination bills to pay the taxi.

There is a company, Cedaz, that runs shuttle buses from the airport to the center. You have two choices, for 90kc (about $3.50) there is one that goes to Namesti Republiky. That is about a 5 minute walk to the Old Town Square (center of everything tourists want to see). Those vans leave every half hour and take about a half hour to get there. For 480kc you can get one (same company) that will drop you at your hotel. Takes the same amount of time obviusly to get there. There are tons of this company's vans waiting outside the arrivals hall and you buy your ticket from the van driver.
With only one day I would just walk around and see Prague. Prague itself is a major site, the buildings are so beautiful. Walk around Old Town Square, over Charles Bridge to Mala Strana and up to the castle. You can walk all around the castle grounds without a ticket, and you can buy tickets to just certain parts of the castle if you don't have time to buy the combo ticket and do the whole thing. The interior of St Vitus Cathedral was beautiful but my favorite was the interior of St. George's Basilica (the smaller church just behind St Vitus, both inside the castle grounds). And also in Mala Strana, the interior of St Nicholas is astounding.
Prague is wonderful, can't you swing an extra day or two?
