I'm still working on this for next year, so if anyone's headed to less well-travelled spots, especially in E. Europe, let me know!
The kids really enjoyed looking at the map, the postcards and we even made a sort of relay race game of finding countries. It worked! Just need cards for those missing countries

Thanks for topping, OWJ - I didn't see Kaliningrad on your list. My DS and DIL are heading there in October, if you're interested. They'll also be in Warsaw.
Would you like city cards or just country cards? I'll be in Dresden and Berlin in a couple weeks, as well as a few out of the way places in Switzerland. This sounds very cool. I'd love to help contribute!

My goal is to get one postcard/country
(I learned last year that I don't have enough room to really fit more than one.)
It doesn't matter if the card features a city or country but the kids get more out of it if it depicts something that place is known for or something unique. For instance, someone sent me a postcard made of cork from Portugal. The kids really liked that one because it was different. They also loved the silly ones like the gigantic potato sitting on top of a car from Idaho. (Thanks, Tiff for that one!)

I wish we could edit after posting...I meant I only have room for one card/European or S. American country due to space on my world map...I am trying to get cards from all 50 US states because that's a separate map.

OWJ...what a great idea!
I will be going to Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro in September. If you still need any of these places I'd be happy to send them to you if you can wait until I get back at the end of September to send them to you.

That's me! I'm happy to know kids liked it. I bought it when I visited Lisbon for the first time, nearly 20 years ago. I included it in the letter because it was so different from the usual paper card.
Nice to find this thread again.

Hi Kappa!
Yes, the kids really loved that card!!! One boy in particular wanted to handle it so often, I was worried it would fall apart. Of all my students, I think he was the kid who most loved the project b/c Alex would come in many mornings and tell me something about a place we received a postcard from--and most days he'd tease me that he was moving there
The project is on-going...there are a lot of countries that still don't have a postcard connected to them. What I did was mount a large map to the wall and surrounded it with all the cards. I then used yarn to connect the postcards to their place of origin.
